" +1 Two pairs is the most you should ever need. Any more than that and you are wearing the wrong boots!

Two layers also. One polypropelene thin sock and then a ragg wool one. I like the ragg ones because theyre thicker and they fill my boots better. Probably like em also cause im an old fart and thats what im used to.

Two. Liner is silk (REI or WinterSilks brand) and outer is wool (SmartWool).

For X country Sking Most often just 1 pair of socks. Smartwool or now trying a pair of Fits brand socks. If I wear two it is with a light poly inner.Always ski with gaitors. After ski wear is i pair of socks, mukmates and mukluks.

Generally a two sock system for me as well, but dependent upon the weather.
Sock liners Nylon/poly next to my skin, and some terrific, thick Alpaca Wool socks. Boots are LaCrosse pack boots with a wool inner sole and an additional full size liner. Plenty warm, but I'm getting older and the boots are heavy if you're doing a lot of walking. Thinking about trying Mukluks.

I use a cotton inner sock and a wool outer sock. I know it is sacrilegious to wear cotton but I just can't adapt to anything else. I've tried smart wool, fleece socks, polypropylene, regular wool, etc. and my feet always feel clammy. Have to have that cotton sock, and then a wool sock.
I think my feet sweat more than the average person's.

I was wondering how many layers of socks most people use and what type material/brands? The most I've used in the past is two and that with a good insulating boot seemed to be enough but I wonder what other people use.
