Went from Snowbank to disappointment this year in January.

It is nice because snowbank has the ice fishermen's trails and snowmobile trails to follow (which can make for nice ice highways..or not).

After snowbank you can follow the dog sledding trails.

As far as sketchy, anytime you have a creek / running water, you have to proceed with caution. That being said, use common sense and you 'll cross either route with no issue's (in my humble opinion).

Hey all,

Doing a trip this weekend. We would like to get to Ensign and beyond there. I know that Moose is the typical put-in for this with dog sled trails galore headed through Ensign. That said, it seems like it's quite a bit quicker (as the crow flies) to go from Snowbank (especially from the edge of the motorized zone). HOWEVER, I have heard that the creek running along the portage to Boot lake can make that whole channel near the portage a sketchy situation with thin ice.

Has anyone been that way this year or in years past? I've heard the sled dog runners used to have a little side route though the woods to the west of the portage, but it seems that most of them are running through Disappointment these days.

Any help appreciated.
