I know a lot of the guys over on Backpacker Magazine froums love the Go Lite Shangra-la 5 ltent as it has plenty of room for all of your gear plus holds up to high winds really well during winter storms.

I'm looking at possible cold tents for winter camping, and also for an ice fishing shelter. I want it to be light. I'm thinking about getting one of these pryamid tents. I've been looking at the Nemo Pentalite, 30D nylon, about 4.5 pounds. I can get it for about $200. Also the Golite Shangrila 5. Seems like 15D nylon, 1.9 pounds for the fly only, about the same price. Any recommendations on a light winter tent, or one of these pyramids?

Yeah, I watched quite a few of those videos trying to figure out what to do. I pulled the trigger yesterday on the Black Diamond Mega Light, came down to fabric and cost. There will be lots of experimenting to come....

The part I don't get about these is how they work with the pole in the middle. I mean, that's gotta be annoying as heck, right?

"Plan A" is to not use their pole, but instead run a line between two trees and hang it. I chose the Black Diamond over the Golite or Nemo because the Black Diamond appears to have a hanging loop and the 30d silnylon construction seemed strong enough to hold it. (vs the 15d PU nylon on the Golite (?)).
The other worry with these is condensation with the single wall. My thinking is, I'll have condensation in winter with a double wall too, but with a single wall I might be able to actively manage the condensation with a fan or part time heater - but this will all take experimenting since I have not winter camped much. Won't be my first fail when it doesn't work out as planned.

Never slept in one, but judging by everyone's videos on youtube, they're the way to go if you want to go light, other than hammocking anyway! :)
