Nice public access on the lake. It used to be plowed.

Two years ago we camped on Tuscarora. Beautiful lake and the portage was a great hiking experience. We caught 3 fish. kept two for dinner. I would prefer to entertain other option to see new area. Thanks brantlars.

Sea Gull would be a good option. The West side of 3 Mile island has some nice areas that haven't been burned and there are plenty of lakers.

Tuscarora, should be a fairly easy trip in by now as there will be a packed trail. Great fishing and scenery.

thanks for suggestions. Sea Gull looks like nice option. Will see if I can convince my group to head that way.

definitely take hungry jack road to the southern shore of bearskin where there is a nice little parking lot as opposed to taking clearwater and walking the length of bearskin (no good parking down there either). you can also access duncan from moss-and there is a portage/snowmobile trail that crosses the same road (hungry jack) maybe a mile earlier (its a fairly steep up and over portage). moss is technically outside the bwca and sees snowmobile traffic but also has some trout in it.
btw there will likely be packed snowmobile trails leading across bearskin to both the duncan and daniels portages.
both hungry jack and clearwater roads have been pretty well groomed on my trips to the area which is nice since i am currently resigned to driving a front wheel drive hatchback with no ground clearance.
email me if you have any questions! Rich aka tg

Reading these posts has lessened the winter stress. Nice refuge and wonderful inside from you all. Winter camping is a tremendously liberating experience. I have done 3 BWCA trips so far. Love the visceral and emotional benefits from the intimate contact with nature. This late February my small group will again venture out to the God's Country. We have fished during previous trips. Caught a trout or two. Nothing major. Do you have any suggestions for Lake Trout Fishing Trip. A lake that is accessible in the winter, has Lake Trout and could be reached in a half a day of a snowshoe travel. We are experienced in no tent camping. Cheers to all. Spring is just around the corner:)

Partridge, Moss, Duncan are all easy to get to. thjis time of the year you can drive out onto Clearwater.

Thanks Dan, how far out could one drive out into Clearwater. I had no idea this would be possible. If that is the case, targeting those lakes in 1/2 day of hiking would make good sense.

In past years the plowed road and fish houses went right up to the BWCA border. From Clearwater, Daniels is another trout lake only 1 mile in.

We are planning Tuscarora in a couple weeks - hopefully an easier pull than Clearwater was in January the morning after a foot of snow fell. Want to keep seagull in mind for next year - is there a good place to park and access the lake - if so which entry point?

Just before Tuscarora Lodge there is an access on the right that bypasses their road. Park there and walk the non-plowed road into Round Lake EP#51 Missing Link. You could enter from Tuscarora Lodge . They should be open.
