Don't know about the Pictographs, but wouldn't mind seeing them someday. As far as their current trip goes, it is probably this one: Trans-Ontario Expedition 2022 I would love to go on a trip with them someday.
Yeah, Barry Lopez is such an underrated nature writer. I was really saddened when he passed away in December 2020.

Thought I would bump this thread because the video is great. Also, in case you all didn't know, Lure of the North has ceased operations of their retail store at the beginning of December 2021. They want to focus more on trips. In fact, they are currently on a month long traverse of northern Ontario right now.

Neat video, very well done. I envy them being able to go out and do trips like this. My winter camping is usually taking my pulk and hauling gear into a winter cabin.

This documentary is just outstanding, and I love the train dropping them off out in the woods. +1 to everything AWB said (except I did not get to the winter camping symposium). This is my first year hot tenting, and vids like this are so motivational and educational. I am liking everything I see about LOTN.

I like to camp during the Winter, and also to endure hardship, but would I enjoy this? I'd like to THINK I could, but it's unknown until I do it. I'd jump in with an experienced crew if given the chance I think.

Hey Jaywalker, I certainly encourage you to attend the Winter Camping Symposium next fall. It's a great time and you'll always learn a lot.

That was a great video to watch. I'm amazed at how much gear they were able to haul on the toboggans, although some of those of those portages looked like a ton of work.

I plan to if at all possible! I just did 4 days in the BW and am eager to learn more and go again ASAP.

I think I can speak for many of us that met "Lure of the North" at this years Winter Camping Symposium. They are an interesting, charismatic and dedicated couple. They talk the talk and they walk the walk.
This film is very well done and for anyone interested in winter camping, you can learn a lot just from watching.
When seeing an arduous group trip like this I am always fascinated with the group dynamics. How they share the toil and deal with different personalities, quirks and eccentricities that we all have.
This was not an easy, leisurely trek and had individuals of varying ages, strengths and abilities. Yet they seemed to get along remarkably well. Leadership plays a part in this of course. I believe that the group feeds off of Dave and Kie's calm, efficient,competent and humorous manner. They seem to be able to keep peoples morale pretty high even when the going is tough.
One of the things that I particularly enjoyed was watching how unassuming Garrett Conover was during this trip. He's the Elvis of winter trekking but doesn't act like he's anything special. He also seems to have an almost childlike quality in that things he's probably seen a thousand times still fascinate him. He also didn't try to dominate or become leader of the trip. Just one of the guys.
Man, I'd love to have a few evenings around the camp stove with that guy....
Again, I urge anyone who appreciates outdoor adventures to watch this film.
