Moose-Ensign-Vera and Four Mile Portage are the most heavily used mushing routes. They are flat and therefore friendly to pulks, but also busier. Snowbank-Disappt-Muzzle-Thomas doesn't get opened as early, sometimes not until February depending on the winter. It doesn't get used as heavily. There's a nice loop starting from Disappt up toward Jordan and back around through Abinodji-Boot. From the Gunflint, Tuscarora is heavily used, especially at the trout opener. Anything beyond Tusc sees almost no visitation. If you have time and want to cover ground, following the border from Sag to Crooked will give you lots of wide open lakes. Otherwise, if you want smaller lakes check the area S-SW of Poplar. Anywhere there is trout fishing there will be activity. |
