Thanks for the tip. Just put a hold on Lighthouse Road.

I just finished 'Wintering' by Peter Geye. I now realize it is part of a loosely-connected trilogy (author says that there is no need to read them in order):
Lighthouse Road, 2012
Wintering, 2016
Northernmost, 2020

Set in the most thinly-veiled fictional town of Gunflint (obviously Grand Marais), it tells a multi-generational family saga of life and love on Minnesota's North Shore. 'Wintering' centers around a father and son who find themselves somewhere off of their known maps -- certainly in the Quetico wilderness -- in the winter of 1963-64. It isn't entirely about canoeing or outdoor skills or winter survival, however. Rather, it weaves a rugged story of family ties (or lack thereof), opportunities seized and lost, revenge, redemption... A good read.

Now, Lighthouse Road and Northernmost are on my library saved list.

Interesting books by an interesting young author. We met him at a small literary festival on Washington Island WI 3-4 years ago.

I've since read all three books, and they're all very compelling reads. I had begun to sketch out a family tree to keep all of the characters straight, and -- lo and behold -- 'Northernmost' has one printed in the preface... I highly recommend this 'trilogy.'
