I've been following posts in the Listening Point forum about book recommendations for BW/Quetico trip. It reminded me of one trip I was on one of the guys in our group was reading The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid by Bill Bryson; his memoir of growing up in Des Moines in the 50's and 60's. The guy on our trip is of that age, maybe even just a bit older and he was busting out laughing frequently. I've read several Bryson books including that one and enjoyed them all - he often makes me laugh out loud. But I also always learn things - history, science, culture. The most recent book of his I read was about Australia, an island/country/continent that has more deadly animals than you can shake a stick at. Lucky BWCA/Quetico doesn't have the snakes, spiders or crocodiles like they do down under or we'd have to have a whole new forum on venom! But you could really go off the grid - once you get 40 miles inland from either the East or West coast there's almost nothing there for thousands of miles in any direction.
