In the same category as "The Long Walk" mentioned in another thread, "Follow the River" is another epic escape story.
An early American settlement is raided and a number of captives are taken. Two women get the opportunity to escape and make the best of it. They must make their way through 800 miles of wilderness in 1755 America. True story.
I understand that a movie, as in the case of "The Long Walk," has been made for "Follow the River" (TV movie, in this case). From the reviews I read, you really need to read the book. See the movie afterwards, if you must.
I read both of the above books nearly 30 years ago and cannot forget either one.

Sounds like a good read.

I am almost looking forward to sitting in front of the fire this winter and reading books.

Hmmm... I just might check that one out (Follow the River) for my canoe trip in Sept.

Another really good book is by one of my favorite authors - Ivan Doig. It's called "The Sea Runners". I couldn't put it down.
