Just returned from the Sawbill area. Mosquitoes came in pretty heavy at dusk and a bit around at dawn, otherwise mostly present but no big deal unless you stood still too long. Found two ticks. Deer flies and other flies around, only a couple bites.

Just got back from 8 days out of Kawishiwi Lake. The mosquitoes were bad at dusk. Otherwise, only wore bug dope on portages. No black flies, but the ankle biters were just starting to emerge.

I know there was a black fly thread in May and June, but I haven't noticed any updates in the last two weeks. Is July getting better?

Not so much black flies but mosquitoes are thriving pretty well. Soon those ankle biters will be in full force. Deer flies are thirsty too.

The mosquitos were getting pretty bad on 7/4 when we came out probably because of all the rain. I don't think there were black flies but I got about 14 bites on each ankle and about that many more on my back, arms and face. I think I got into a chigger nest while wearing footie socks with my dry shoes. I should have stuck with permethrin sprayed crew socks. Still itching on some of the later ones. They are pretty fierce.

On Lac La Croix the past week and the skeeters were only bad at dawn and dusk which is normal. Flies were terrible, especially at the ankles and especially while in the canoe on the water. Nothing a bug net couldn't handle, but we found them especially bad this last week. That being said, LLC was also unusually calm in terms of little breeze to keep bugs away.
