So, what is in the middle of the white's area that they are avoiding?

That’s really neat. The other day on MPR they had a story about finding the largest Jack Pine in the US while doing this wolf research.

It looks like it might be the intersection of Highway 53 and the Ash River Trail. That is the location of Jim's Ash Trail Store.

Super cool, I’m actually surprised that each packs area is that small, I thought their range was bigger.

Fascinating! I'd say the red pack wins for symmetry. I'd love to see what a pack territory map looked like over the BWCA. I'm guessing a lot of our favorite portages are boarders.

That's pretty easy pickins. A lot easier than tangling with a moose.

That's really neat. Two things struck me about it.One, it;s unbelievable how well they respect each others borders, they must do a really good job of marking their borders and then be willing to respect them. Two, the map looked a lot like the way a map of a continent with the countries shown in different color might look. I wonder if the borders are sort of arbitrary, or if they follow some kind of a natural border like a stream or fence, and what kind of "wolf wars" took place to establish them. Very fascinating.

Mn DNR says on average wolf pack range is 54 sq. miles. I think around my area Brainerd, with a little more food and more fragmented ecosystem the ranges is much smaller and a little higher wolf population.
We found a last years wold den recently. Going to see in February if they return this year for pups.

Sometimes they have like a no wolf zone between them.

How cool! I wonder if the yellow pack have frequent encounters with lots of gnashing of teeth.

And another surprise coming from Voyageurs- article about wolves fishing in the Duluth news tribune. Interesting stuff. Can't get the link to work right now. Maybe someone else can find the article and link it.

Very interesting. I wonder what percentage of the wolves have collars?

I saw this the other day and thought it was a cool map. Also wondered why the hole in the white wolf map. I suspect you could estimate potential den locations in the areas inundated with color patterns.
