Pinetree, The young lady that won that lottery was not only a close friend of my brother, but also worked for him. I met her when we were both in his wedding. There was one hell of a story behind the circumstances of her buying that ticket. She was on TV and my brother was with her. My girlfriend at the time called me early the next morning to tell me that my brother was on the national news. The first thing that came to my mind was "OMG, what did he do now?". I turned on the TV and sure enough there he was.

Not if it was me.which it wasn't.
Years ago I bought a ticket in Brainerd and the Jackpot was like 100 million dollars. Well I was in Ely just finishing up a canoe trip. Walked into the Holiday Gas station and they were talking about someone in Brainerd won the big Multi million National lottery. Well my ticket was at home, and NO again it wasn't I when I got home.

The guy that won lives and works in Ely. I don't think he is "from" Ely.

I think EllaHally owes the lucky winner an apology and and anyone else who has lived in N.Mn. I have owned property and pay taxes in over 4 Counties in area. I've lived in Ely for 40 years. I pay for your schools, roads, etc. Typical Ely local attitude. Give up what drives your barbs.

The winner sounds like a good guy. He went to work after looking at his ticket.

Lookout1 does have a good point. Just because you weren't born there doesn't mean you can't be from there.

It was in the newspaper so I thought okay to list: Actually some one from Crookston won a million also.
Andy Gibbons, of Ely, Minn., also won $1 million from the lottery game, which has odds of winning the top prize at one to 350,000. Participants could buy tickets from Oct. 23 through Dec. 14.
Gibbons, who bought his ticket at the Voyageur Short Stop convenience store in Ely, claimed his prize Thursday, and Meyer collected her check Friday.
