I would like to see the basecampjng forum on the screen when we enter the message board. I think many do not realize it is there as it is out of sight below the For Sale/wanted forum.

The Private Forums are somewhat of a bunch of orphans. They are mis-named which drives off interested folks. Yet there is much information available there. Most also benefit some due to that bit of "exclusivity", often avoiding the crank posters.

Bored? Rainy day? Take a stroll thru the variety of private forums, you can loose a lot of time there while picking up needed information.

I used to look at them all the time. Not sure what happened. Thanks for the reminder.

They'll create useless additional forums on this website that nobody really uses, but they won't create sticky topics to potentially prevent thousands of repeated topics that could free up bandwidth and centralize information... admins here got enough common sense to survive in the wildy, but not how to run a website. I bet he kills it on ad money though

Popcorn please!

If I could get my hands on the deleted treads and posts I would start my own site with them. I often wonder what I miss or how bad it gets. I doubt most people would treat someone bad to their face. Online or behind ones back...… all bets are off. My life seems pretty peaceful around my friends, family and peers.

I have no dog in this fight.

lindylair: "yogi, a the top of the page, next to the logout is an icon for your account. click on that and it will show you all the groups you belong to. Scroll to the bottom and you will see the option to create another BWCA group that you could make as specific or wide as you want to. I might suggest a group created around enjoying the BWCA/Voyagers National park area by boat, unless you are specifically tied to the Ely area.

I have long wanted to explore and fish Voyagers but have never made it up there. BWCA quality wilderness, perhaps a bit more traffic and motor noise but comparable scenery and fishing. Plus a picnic table and a bear box. Great campsites.

For that matter, exploring out of Fall lake, Birch Lake or Burntside would give me the northwoods fix that I crave too. In any case, Ely or Voyagers, i might be interested in a trip if you have the boat. I would provide whatever support you might need given the knee, etc. issues.

Anyways, hope that helps you create the forum you are looking to create. Take care.

You would be surprised how under utilized VNP is early and late in the season, and honestly you MIGHT see a few more boats but they go past and are out of your hair much faster.

We are primarily base campers. Didn't know the forum existed. Thanks for giving it new life... going to check it out now.

That's actually a thought - someone could archive the most helpful threads on each topic in a designated private forum to direct new members to with common questions. Those new members would get a site tutorial in the process joining the private forum, and then they'd be hooked forever. :)

Back at the start of the forum, I thanked Joe for doing the work of creating the forum. I think many of us are already there or are moving in the direction of Base Camping. I am glad to see a renewed interest in the forum and am looking forward to more info on how to better the experience.

Joe: I no longer use a shower to collect filtered water and would appreciate an update for that or at least an added comment that there is a better way to safely collect and use purified water. Thanks. As a tech challenged, your input here is appreciated."

Dan, appreciate your comments. Any member of the private forum can make any edits.

Didn’t know it existed. I see myself base camping more in the future. My kids are getting to the perfect age to bring them in the BWCA. Thanks

A couple years ago someone(Sag Joe?) created a Basecamp forum on the site. As i look at it, I see but a handful of posts over two years. It surprises me because it was a good idea and I know there are many of us "basecampers" out there.

I have begun to make a few posts in that forum and invite you basecampers(or others of course) to join in. Seems like there could be lots of interesting topics and value to be had from that forum.

Share your ideas around great basecamp areas, best entry points for a basecamp trip, cool daytrips from a basecamp site, basecamp cooking, comfort items you can bring on a basecamp trip that enhance your trip, reasons you basecamp, fishing tips(since you have the time), things you do to occupy your time on a basecamp trip, etc...

We shall see, i am hopeful for some interest to be generated in a forum dedicated to a tripping style that many of us prefer.

Lindy, how would one suggest a forum for boating in the ely area... used to do the canoe thing but now to fish the lakes around ely.

Thanks for posting this, I have been considering taking my younger kids with me, and have been considering base camping. This will be a lot of good information for me to read through.

I am thinking about creating a private forum called safe space where there are no posts allowed, you just sign in and squeeze your on line puppy, while brooding over your own superiority complex, who's in?

May I have my cigarettes please Nurse Ratched?

Nurse paddler- the moderators don't create the sub-forums. You need to complain to the members here since THEY are the ones that make them. Even you can create a forum.

They do sticky notes too. They did one form me on the Quetico forum on how to get a permit.

Hmmm. For some of us, including this NURSE OF 32 YEARS, this forum is perfect "As is." If you disagree with the way the administrator's run this site, there are plenty others out there!

Lindy, thanks for pointing this out. I'll check it out now.

As I recall, I created it to archive some helpful topics that were ongoing at that time. Someone called for a forum to be created, so I took the initiative and created it.

Perhaps I'll take a look and see what I can add.

I think the Basecamping Forum would get a lot more activity if it was not located just the For Sale or Wanted Forum. Most probably do not realize another forum is located there.
