Haven't been weighing in, sometimes you get frustrated weighing in every day. I think I'll wait a while . Doing alright though. 25 or so. I think....

Part of the problem -- went to Texas end of last week. I think I ate my weight in barbeque over a 2-day period. (Totes keto!)

Next problem - going back to Texas next week. But not downtown Austin this time, which may make the meals a bit less of an issue."

Sue, you gonna make it to the Rockford wing weekend?

Had the same problem in South Carolina last week. Between Bullies on Hilton Head and ChooChoos in Blufton I did the same thing! Not to mention Red State BBQ just north of Lexington on the way home! Oh well, back to the drawing board. What goes on must come off.

Still cheering for everyone!

I actually started this effort on 1/6/19 at 226.4.
I entered the contest on 2/14/19 at 212.
This morning, I was at 205.8.
I am happy with that. Three months to go."

Time for my monthly weigh in. This was a very frustrating month for me. I was sure I was going to break 200 pounds this month. However, for most of the month, my weight remained unchanged. Its starting to move again. Maybe as the weather gets warmer and I can be more active, things will continue to move.
This month for sure I break 200. My ultimate goal is still 175.

This morning's weight: 202.6. Weight loss for March is 3.2 lbs.

Too late for me to join. I’ve gained twenty pounds since last summer. Beginning in October I started having serious leg pain, it was difficult to walk to the end of the driveway. Both legs felt like they were on fire. I’ve got some really rare medical issues. It took six doctor visits before I got an answer. An mri showed that I had a severe rupture in my lumbar spine. They wanted to operate. However the neurosurgeon looked at the mri and based on the mri and my symptoms determined that my problem was epidural lipomatosis, fat in my spine was pressing on my nerves. Rare stuff but I’m used to it. The cure is loosing weight. It’s 12:30 am, the fire in my legs is making sleep unlikely. I’ll be wearing a speedo this summer or I’ll be spending time laying on the couch in agony. Pain or maybe no pain is an interesting motivator.

In or around the middle of January, I had an appointment with a new (for me) hematologist. My old doctor had retired, so I had to find a new one to treat my anemia.

I weighed in at the appointment at 220 lbs. The doc told me I was overweight. He knew I was a diabetic and that I took insulin. He gave me a kindly lecture about the relationship of insulin and fat.

He told me if I cut carbs out of my diet, I would lose some weight and could greatly reduce my intake of insulin.

Well, I haven't had a potato, a piece of bread or a piece of pasta since the middle of January and here are the results........

I'm now around 188 lbs., down from 220, and have reduced my insulin usage by 90%. I also have been taken off my cholesterol medication.

It was a great lecture."

That’s a crazy successful start to the year, impressive numbers on their own, even more so as a percentage of total. I know one thing, it doesn’t come easy and it doesn’t come without discipline. For me even the slightest indiscretion seems to cause a stall in progress.

Nice going!

I didn’t get squat this past week, actually went up 4-5 despite no instances of the wheels coming off the cart. Seems to be pretty common for me, I think the low number last week was likely the result of not drinking enough water the day or two prior.

Yeah, I’m fairly convinced of the evils of carbs, I’m no Michael Phelps, I dont need 209grams of carbs a day to sit at my desk doing CAD, the carbs I get from the veggies are about all I need. Broccoli does tire after awhile lol I’ve been really liking the fresh thin green beans (Costco), lil lemon pepper seasoning, tiny bit of butter (I’m much less concerned with a little fat than excess carbs). Mixing it up helps, spinach salads 2/3 days, the rest broccoli or green beans."

How's everybody doing? I got myself set up on an app to help set a sensible caloric intake each day. I can track my exercise and foods. Day 4 and I feel like it is helping me think carefully before I chose to eat something. The crazy snowfall has helped me get more exercise between shoveling and wading through snow for walks. I have also added walking stairs wherever I can.

Anyone else?

I think it's working out for me. I don't seem to want to eat as much as I did before starting this diet and I want to do more work to the boat and house. Built a front deck for my bass tracker over the weekend. Anyone else?"

Once I get to my goal you are on, my weapon of choice will be a GOOD pizza, Little Oven, Savoy, Sammy’s, has to be cut in small squares, this just seems to disappear with incredible ease.

I relapsed last Sat, had a big beautiful bacon blue burger, I did spread it out over two meals and chucked half of the amazing pretzel bun it was on but still haven’t crawled my way back from it.... 258 is where I stand, was down to 254 before Sat, how a burger and a couple of onion rings added 6 lbs seems to defy the laws of physics, I regret my moment of weakness lol

Way to go Ragged! I agree....there's no "one size fits all" methodology to this. Do what works for you whatever that is. I am a binge eater and it's very easy for me to go crazy from time to time especially when a lot of really good food is sitting in front of me. Right now I'm sitting in front of a nice hot breakfast buffet and I gotta a tough choice to make.

However, I do recognize my eating disorders and like the book says......"we strive for progress, not perfection".

Anyway, I'm am sincere in my thoughts about all of you and what you are going through! I think by sharing our experiences we help each other by knowing that we're not alone.

Keep trying..........Mike

A week stuck at the same weight for me and no change in my measurements, either :( Not giving up. Switching to more protein, less carbs by using a protein powder shake in the morning.
Lunch has mostly been fresh greens, cucumbers, carrots, tomato slices, or other, then add a couple protein sources ( ex. chicken, turkey, cottage cheese, edamame, or chickpeas). I like using the cottage cheese as the dressing...more nutritious.

Hopeful for tomorrow's weigh in.

Today the ice disappeared and we got out for a vigorous 50 minute paddle. Had the GPS so could tell we were traveling at 3.5 mph against a stiff headwind and 4.5 mph when the wind died off. Looking forward to paddling a few times a week. Being on the local lake with no fishing boats yet and the loons hanging out made us almost feel like we were in the BW. And we got our practice portage path cleared this weekend.

Update Tuesday morn...down a pound, hurray!

Update: Weigh in this A.M., down a pound.

That sounds brutal, jwartman. Hope it takes a turn for the positive for you.

I have lost maybe 1 or 2 pounds. With still over a month remaining and the weather finally allowing some outdoor exercise, I'm starting anew today and making a push.

My only real goal is for the stern of my boat to sag a little less and to just feel more "comfortable" doing the things I love to do -- mainly fishing.

Started the contest at 212.0.

March was a frustrating month for me, with my weight bouncing up and down, with a net loss of 3.2 pounds for the month and ending March at 202.6 pounds.
The first 7 to 10 days of April were equally frustrating, with no net weight loss. I did some research and made some changes, and the weight started dropping again.

Weight this morning, 195.2, for a net loss during April of 7.4 pounds. Contest weight loss total of 16.8 lbs, and total weight loss since January 5 of 31.2 lbs. My goal for the contest is to get to 190 or less.

Big month for me - I broke 200 lbs for the first time this century, and I dropped out of the "obese" catagory to merely "overweight."

The biggest changes I made:

1. Reduced my protein intake.
2. Eliminated dairy, except for occasional hard cheese.
3. Switched from decaf coffee to full caf.
4. Started using coconut milk in my coffee.
5. Started incorporating bone broth into my diet, occasionally substituting bone broth for breakfast or lunch.

Congrats CR! You should be proud of what you've accomplished.

I had the same experiences concerning my weight not dropping for a while and then dropping suddenly. Why, I have no idea. I just think the body must have an adjustment period or something. What I do know is that the "math" comes out....over time. For a year and a half I wrote down every calorie I consumed (good days and bad days) and how many calories I expended while excersising. For me one pound = 3,500 calories, just like it's supposed to.

My solution to the after dinner snacking has been to go to bed earlier than normal. At the first snacking urge, I drink a big glass of water. At the 2nd urge, I head up to bed. The good news is I am getting more and better sleep because it also means less screen time before bed.

I didn't join the contest because I started earlier than most of you. And of course nobody wants to fail so, the less folks were aware of my effort the better.

I'm 56 years old, with a sedentary job for the last 25 years, and had been lightly active.

I weighed in at 268.5 lbs. on January 15th.
On may 15th the scale tipped at 211.5. (I only step on the scale every 15 days)

I've lost 5 inches off my waist, 3.5 off my thighs, 1.75 off my neck, and added 1.25 on my upper arm.

BF has been reduced from 31% to 23.5%. (targeting 21.5%)

I lift weights 3 days a week and do cardio 6 days a week, Usually 40 minutes of MMA Interval training on an Octane Pro elliptical 3 days, and 30 minutes of High Impact Interval Training (HIIT) the other 3. Now that the weather is warming up, I've started to replace the Octane machine with semi-intense 30-40 minute bike rides, or brisk 3 mile walks with the dog targeting under a 20 minute per mile pace.

My diet has changed a little bit, but I'm eating more calories daily now than I have most of my adult life. I watch my Macros closely, and have been fine tuning the percentages regularly. Right now I'm eating around 1950 calories per day in 250 to 300 calorie increments 6-8 times a day, and burning about 3500 calories daily. Right now I try to keep my macro percentages at 40-40-20. (40% clean carbs, 40% lean protein, 20% fat), with targets of the following:
carb's - 186 gr.
fat - 41 gr.
protein - 186 gr.
natural sugars - 53 gr. (I've also been trying to greatly reduce, or eliminate, processed sugar from my diet)
Oh, and I have a 120-130 ounce target of water a day.

My only regrets are: I should have started this 15 years ago. And the exercise and macro calculations take a lot of time!

My advice: If you hit road blocks along your way, make small adjustments to give the metabolism little changes to adjust to. Try not to avoid big changes all at once that can shock your system into storing calories.

Keep going folks, for me it's been well worth the effort!

Down to the home stretch. No losers here (although in literal fact, the way to be a winner is to be a loser!)

Heading out to the Rockford campout in a few hours. The miserable weather we've been having for awhile has finally broken. I expect to be seeing some of you there. Maybe we should use a separate table for the keto appropriate food during the pot luck on Saturday. I will be bringing pulled pork. I will also be bringing buns, but will not be having one myself. ;-)

I am gearing up for the final push, though. This month will hopefully show some serious progress. Whatever happens, I have definitely gotten in better shape.

I started trying to lose weight in early January when I was 226. I believe my formal entry into the contest was at 212. My weight this morning was 189.4.
Early tomorrow morning, I'm leaving on a jet plane for south america until June 14, and I'm not sure about access to internet or an accurate scale. So I ask permission of the judges to submit an early final post. No matter how I end up in the contest, I am happy with how I've done.

I'm not in the challenge, but I dropped 10-15 pounds in about two months by eating a small breakfast (half piece of live grain toast with an apple, most days), slightly larger lunch (meat/cheese/pickles mostly), and a pretty large dinner. Dessert only on Sundays, drinks only on weekends, minimized fried food, and moderate exercise. It can be done.

I'm not in the contest, either, but here's my weight loss story.

It was a great lecture.

For me this has proven not to work, everyone is different and plenty of people do just fine but not me. I cant tell you how many previous attempts had been made only to be derailed by a cheat day (one almost always turned into more). Its a multi faceted problem. A cheat day reminds you how much you miss the bad stuff you have cut out. I also tend to over eat and my stomach stretches out and I feel super hungry again. Lastly if you are like me one cheat meal can completely erase a week or twos worth of loss, and that severely impacts your motivation and when you lack motivation and moral is low you tend to throw in the towel. Again this is all just me, I cant do it, its got to be a cold turkey all or nothing deal, complete change or don't bother. This is really only applicable to someone trying to make a drastic change. If you hit your goal then obviously things are different. I'm at the point now where I'm never hungry, I like the stuff I'm eating, its become very routine and much easier to pass on the temptations.

@264 from 307 for the challenge, net loss of 43, 53 from the first of the year.

Current favorite is a spinach Cesar salad with blackend chicken breast. I don't mess around with that crappy low fat shelf stable dressing, 2-3 tablespoons of the good refrigerated stuff is still only like 150-225 calories and its SOOOO worth it and completely in the budget with the rest of the meal consists of spinach and 2-3oz of chicken breast.

Well that’s a rather large number, I think that puts me firmly in the lead for a contest no one wants to win. All muscle, big boned..... you know, the usual suspects, probably retaining water as well. Glad we didn’t start this on Jan 1st, that number would have been even worse.

Shooting for 210 but realistically 220-230 would be a nice improvement, won’t get there by June 1st but hoping by the end of 2019

See ya at the wing weekend Mitch... This is my goal also..

Whew, tough week. I traveled to Duluth last week with a high school robotics team and had to confront being served meals meant for a teenager. Too many carbs. Tried to eat as much salad as I could, but there was very little variety. The only saving grace was we had to walk about 40 minutes everyday to get back and forth from the hotel to the venue, and there were lots of stairs and walking back/forth at the venue. Trying to get refocused this week, but not always making my calorie goal for the day. With my work schedule I am struggling to get enough exercise, but finally dug some hand weights out of the basement and did an upper arm workout while watching TV at the end of a very long day.

Still, I have lost 10 lbs. and have been slowly creeping down.

Breakfast I’ve been doing an egg and a couple of slices of diced Canadian bacon, maybe a couple clementines. Some days I just do an apple and clementines

Snacks I’ve been doing a hand full of nuts, cashews or pistachios, not fat or calorie free but no carbs and seems to actually hit the spot and stick with me more than fruit.

Lunch is my big meal. I have been doing wraps every other day. I usually use chicken breast with that Tony Chacheres creole seasoning, for the wrap I get the mission carb balance tortillas, fajita size is my favorite as they are smallest so I can have two and not feel too guilty. Only 4grams net carbs per, 45 calories, lots of fiber. I’ll use a single wedge if that laughing cow cheese, the spicy jack is extremely flavorful, 15 calories, toss in a good amount of romaine. Two of these complete units are are only 250-300 calories depending on how much chicken breast and for me this doesn’t at all feel like “diet good”. As an alternative I eat chicken breast with lemon pepper and green beans or broccoli.

Dinner is generally lighter but similar to lunch minus the wrap. If I’m doing a wrap for lunch that’s when I make the chicken and will eat it with a vegetable of some sort, if I’m doing the vegetables for lunch the next day that’s when I make them. I also will do salads for dinner, lots of chicken breast/tenders, I been going through 6lbs a week, frozen tenders are the easiest and pretty cheap.

As a rule I try not to east past 6-7pm. That for me is the hardest time, I’ve actually been going to bed earlier to avoid being on the main level of the house, if I’m there I’m tempted to “graze” lol

Still hoping for 250 by the end of this, that would be 19% or so

I got an app called LoseIt so I can track my calories. It really helps me be accountable for what I decide to put in my mouth.

My bad habits to change have been munching mindlessly on junk during my sizable commute so now I don't keep any food in my car except a couple Frooze balls (link below). I also used to stop for fast food on my way home as a "snack" before dinner, so I quit that. I have also started taking the stairs when I visit my dad as well as walking to visit him instead of driving the half mile.

Breakfast
2 eggs, 2 slices of bacon, load of veggies (spinach, kale, asparagus, or whatever is on hand)
Some days I will still have cereal (measured out) loaded with fresh blueberries or raspberries. I have switched to flax milk (tastes way better than skim milk and has fewer calories).

Lunch
I get free lunch at work. Fortunately they serve lean meat, great vegetables, and lots of healthy choices. The calorie count is available on a website so I preplan what I will have and what size portion I can afford to take. This is my biggest meal of the day. I am skipping dessert.

Dinner
Dinner is pretty light around here normally. Tonight I had some asparagus, 3 oz. of kielbasa sausage and some homemade butternut squash soup.

Snacks
I keep clementines around as well as nuts. I also find that a little herbed deli turkey and a couple rice crackers is satisfying. When I get the munchies in the car, I nibble on one Frooze ball. One is only about 50 calories.

I agree that going to bed early is the best way to keep from nighttime munching. But sometimes, like tonight, I get distracted and stay up. But it looks like I can afford a small handful of peanuts and call it a night.

Not doing so hot thus far here. Gotta get motivated. Grabbing snow shoes from my parents garage tomorrow! Usually I ride a bike all year but the snow has made that tough this past month!

Looks like the better part of 10lbs, I’d say that pretty darn good, nice going.

I’m down about 14 myself since the posted pic, 24 since the first of the year. Besides walking 4miles of day on the treadmill I stopped doing my rather large driveway with the tractor, do it all with the snowblower, takes forever but lots of activity for sure.
