Pretty sure he is talking about Gilmour's recent gig there. Recent as in the past 2 or so years."

Yes I was talking about his new live recording from 2016. It’s a mix of his latest album and Floyd stuff. I have seen an older recording from Pompeii but only the song Echoes. Didn’t know it was a full concert. I’ll look for it. Thanks

maybe because he spent some time in the Twin ports, LOL, Arthur & William that is, I have selections from three of Neil Young's accoustic concerts to listen to, and Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere partly because around the time he originally became popular is when I got into paddling with HS best friend and NY was one of my favorites

I said was

the radio stations in Duluth-Sup have some interesting programs (always like the Blues program ), and occasionally find a station from the UP from across the lake

it's also interesting to listen to Canadian public radio when travelling thru Canada, makes me glad to be Back In The USA and out of the Union of Socialistic Social Republics of Canada when I leave, the public radio there is even left of the NPR dial

Sweet list! Boonie, you'd appreciate this. As I pulled away from the parking lot of Pioneer Midwest with the new solo canoe I purchased (as a result of help from this forum), The Current was playing Wildflowers by Tom Petty. I wept.
A great sequence of songs for your ride, Silvermice, Wildflowers, then Time to Move On and then You Wreck Me (one of my all time favorite ear worms on portages). "

I have a long drive - 2500 miles+ round trip, so lots of time to listen.

I don't know how I forgot -

Stevie Ray Vaughn
Gregg Allman
Derek Trucks Band

A question for all the Neil Young fans - he's done a lot of different things - how many have listened to the Sleeps with Angels CD?

For all the Neil Young fans, if you are not a member of his Neil Young Archives, it is well worth the 20 bucks a year to join it. Pretty much everything he has ever done can be found there, and, in typical Neil fashion, the sound quality is incredible.

Hi guys, I have a ten hour drive ahead of me to get to the BWCA the first week of September. I have about 2.5 to 3 hours of music between a couple Fyder and Everhart and a good amount of Jerry Vandiver.

Does anyone have any canoe/paddle song suggestions that follow the same style/theme?

Also, if anyone knows where to get the full Fyder and Everhart album I would love to purchase it.

I’m waiting for an appointment, so this is a great distraction! Everyone has their own taste, but here’s a playlist that I use often when I’m driving by myself on the open road, especially my Wabi treks.

Mr. Neil Young-Sail Away, Thrasher, Harvest Moon and...well, just anything
Rachel Platten-Fight Song
Van Morrison-Into the Mystic, Tupelo Honey
Seals & Croft (don’t judge me)- Hummingbird, We May Never Pass This Way Again, Summer Breeze
Rich Mullins-Calling Out Your Name
Gordon-Rainy Day People, Carefree Highway,
Runaway Home-Dreams
LRB-Cool Change (at least 5x)
4NonBlondes-What’s Up?
Eagles-Tequila Sunrise, Desperado, Take It to the Limit, Peaceful Easy Feeling
Lynyrd Skynyrd-Simple Man
CSN and maybe Y-Southern Cross, Wasted on the Way, Carry On
Allman Bro- Midnight Rider
Lobo-Me, You, Dog Named Boo
America-Lonely People
Don Edwards-Coyotes (4x)
Jim Croce-I Got A Name
Barry Manilow (haters back off: ) ) - I Made It Through the Rain

SiruisXM Channel 23 Grateful Dead in the morning, until 11 am, then Rush Limbaugh for most of 3 hours. Then, Bruce Hornsby CD's, with a grand finale of Pink Floyd - The Wall, usually repeating Comfortable Numb a few times up either the Gunflint or Sawbill Trails. Sometimes listen to WTIP for some local flavor and weather when I can get it on the north shore.

Comfortably Numb is usually my earworm when I am portaging.

Check out Great Big Sea (from Newfoundland, Canada). "The Night that Paddy Murphy Died" is one of my go to songs to sing while hauling over a long portage (almost always followed by "Fairytale of New York" by the Pogues)!

For something local (MN local, that is) try the "Half a Mile From Home" album by The Sweet Colleens.

The Americana/Celtic sound of both get me in the paddling mood when driving up north.

Into the Wild soundtrack. Eddie Vedder's The Wolf is a great nighttime up-north tune (no lyrics). Love some Canned Heat, Allman Brothers, Rush, Pink Floyd. Even a little Sum41 and Barenaked Ladies for some upbeat, early morning traveling.

One thing I love about road trips is tuning in stations in different regions along the way. Whether it's music (inevitably a good song turns to static as I drive out of range), or conversations, or some Wisconsin station playing polkas, whatever. I enjoy it and my wife hates it.

For the last ten years or so we have had Anna with us, once it was Robert. They are our grandchildren. We have all of Jerry Vandiver's paddling CD's and we usually play those, or music from Pat Surface, a northwoods favorite.

If we have the radio on, these days it is usually Sirius, and I like the 50's and 60's stations best, sometimes Elvis.

Spartan1 enjoys talk radio of many kinds. I am not as enthusiastic about it.

I've seen him twice with his own bands; the first time was with the International Harvesters at the MN State Fair and the last time was about 10 years ago with Crazy Horse, and two other times with CSN&Y. I'll be seeing him again in September on my 2nd visit to Alpine Valley for Farm Aid. Probably my all time favorite artist and there's likely not many more chances of seeing him.

Haha, I was late to the dead scene but went when I was ready. 3 shows Noblesville Indiana June 1993 and 3 shows Eugene Oregon June 1994. Life changing experiences for me.

I've seen Neil a few times. the last 3 times were the first 2 show of his 3 show run at Carnegie hall January 2014 and 1 show at Chicago theater April 2014. All were solo gigs. I paid more than I care to admit for 3rd row tickets to the Chicago show, but to me it was worth it and a one time thing. I would like to see him with Crazy Horse one more time. Figures I will be on my solo when he comes to Alpine Valley with Willie and Bonnie Raitt for Farm Aid in September.

I like Boonie’s list a lot; I would add some Traffic and Lou Reed to mine. In regards to Eva Cassidy, I love telling those that don't know about her that they should give her a try. The typical response is “Eva who?”, then after they hear her it’s “how could I not have heard about her before?” An absolutely lovely voice and also a very tragic story!

It's a interview/performance show. I agree with the CCR / Come ALong with me( more general paddling ) -- but how about some Scorpions "The Zoo" when you need the extra push to get across some big / wavy/ water? I discovered Eva Cassidy in mid 2000s. I agree with all said about her.

I was a metal head back in the day (ah teen angst haha)so do appreciate the therapeutic value of hard rock. Good for dealing with frustrating traffic, mean people and energy boosts. I like the Scorpions also-saw then in concert. Rob Zombie- Living Dead Girl, Dragula and Metallica-Sad but True, Sandman. Little bit of AC/DC.

Like another poster said, I love almost all types of music and have a nice mix for a variety of moods. My teen daughter introduces me to some cool new stuff. Even have a little Johnny Cash, Garth Brooks and Martina McBride. Neko Case, anyone? I’ve seen her in concert twice. Super talented. America. The Doors. Arctic Monkeys. Billy Joel-Songs in the Attic-has been a constant source of happiness since I bought the cassette at 16.

I’m enjoying this thread and checking out some new artists. Jill, that’s one of my favs from Mr. Young!

I wouldn’t have made it through life without music-straight up.

boonie: "Thanks for the Eva Cassidy link - she was really good. Too bad another really talented one died way too young. "

Boonie, she was unknown outside of her hometown area of Wash. D.C. and couldn't get a record deal because the labels wanted to pigeon hole her into one style of music and mold her to be a star like like Whitney Houston etc.

So, she passed away at 33 in 1996 and there's basically just live recordings and some studio stuff. An album was put out that no one cared much about until it got in the hands of a BBC DJ in the UK. Then, this grainy video footage of her singing "Over The Rainbow" from a fan with a camcorder got into his hands and they played it on the Top of the Pops video music show around 2000. Keep in mind that vidoes on that show were all big production numbers. Think MTV in the 80's. So when this was shown it caught a lot of people off guard and got requested to be played over and over.

Here is that video footage that broke Eva to the world posthumously.

His live from Pompeii album from that tour would be first on my list.
Also a big Neil fan. Add in some Joe Bonamassa,Van Halen and Clapton.
Can you tell I like to listen to great guitar playing."

There is a DVD of Live From Pompeii out there. It's from about 1970 (give or take). I found it at Barnes and Noble, of all places."

Pretty sure he is talking about Gilmour's recent gig there. Recent as in the past 2 or so years.

Yes I was talking about his new live recording from 2016. It’s a mix of his latest album and Floyd stuff. I have seen an older recording from Pompeii but only the song Echoes. Didn’t know it was a full concert. I’ll look for it. Thanks "

Certain bands bring back strong memories from my past. Pink Floyd is one of those. I actually saw this movie on the big screen sometime in the 70's. Their music brings back unpleasant times when I used psychodelic drugs. Unfortunately it's hard to listen to them these days because of that. The same goes for The Doors and Black Sabbath. Led Zeppelin to a certain extent too. I saw The Song Remains The Same countless times in the theatre but have no memory of doing so because I was so "out of my mind".

Now, play me some old 70's Yes or Rush and I perk right up! :)

It's a interview/performance show. They play outdoors in an old Roman amphitheater in Pompeii, doing Echoes, Careful with that Axe, Saucerful of Secrets, One of these days, Set the controls, Us and Them, and Brain Damage. Interviews from the making of Dark Side in 1972. Plus all kinds of other stuff. The copy I have is a directors cut, its on the Universal label, copyright date 2003."

I will definitely look for this. Maybe Amazon. It is prime day!

Lately I've been getting into John Prine. I was collecting podcasts of interviews with him and came across a download of a full live show he performed at the Newport Folk Festival in 2017. It's fantastic! and it's free and I want to share it with you guys if you haven't heard it. It will definitely be playing in my truck on my 10 hour drive to Ely in August. BTW, he sings many duets with special guests one of which is Roger Waters of Pink Floyd.

Here's the link to download but you can also get it on Itunes at "Live in concert at NPR All Songs Considered".

Back in the day, when I first started going to the Bdub in the 90's, I had a habit of always listening to the Offramp album by the Pat Metheny group as I would start the final drive up the Gunflint, Arrowhead, or whatever road was the final leg of my journey to my EP. I found it to be relaxing and it would put me in the mood for time in the wilderness. Great memories. I'm about to take my 28th Bdub trip this fall - maybe I should restart this tradition.

Dang, Mike; kindred souls! So there was a reason we ran into each other in June...!"

Right on Brother! I see a lot of people with awesome taste in music. Must be a personality type that gravitates to the love of wilderness and great music. "

If you have not listened to it, check out DIck's Pick 32. It's an August 7, 1982 Alpine Valley show. Was my first trek to Alpine (can honestly say I do not recall much of the shows; I was only 20, so there is that...), and Jerry is beyond hot on this night!"

I was at that show! It was my first (and so far only) Alpine Valley concert but not my first Dead concert. The whole band was on fire that night!"

Yes they were! Last time I saw the band was at Alpine in 87. Not so hot that run.

I just made a playlist of the "best of" REM's first 5 albums. I'm also getting into John Prine these days and recently bought two of his earliest albums. I really like The Vulgar Boatmen for long car rides so they will get played.

And I know I'll listen to Eva Cassidy's "Nightbird" double live album. Possibly the greatest live recording of all time. She performed at least 5 different genres of music on this one night. Here's a sample.
