I'm so sorry to hear this. Terry was the one who put me in my first Kruger design boat, which was life changing for me. That is no understatement. It opened up all kinds of new fun and adventure. He and Margaret gave a little rat terrier of ours a wonderful home for the dog's last few years of life, and for that we are always grateful. He will be sorely missed. Joe

Terry's road to recovery continues to be bumpy, rocky, with ups and down and potholes, slippery rock faces and muck holes, like a challenging portage. This from Margaret this am: "Terry Webb Has had no sleepcause back on Levophed. BLOOD PRESSURE WON'T STAY UP 98/50"
Continuing to pray for him and Margaret.

Yes Kim, take care of yourself. Hope your recovery from hip surgery goes smoothly.
I don't have as good a reason for not keeping y'all informed on what I see on FB re Terry. Just busy and buzzing around.
About a day ago, Margaret posted that "Terry was off of Levophed. No(?t) taking fluid off his lungs. His lungs look much BETTER"
--I don't know what Levophed is but assuming it's some sort of med for fluid removal. EDIT: Just Googled this: Levophed (norepinephrine bitartrate) is a vasoconstrictor, similar to adrenaline, used to treat life-threatening low blood pressure (hypotension) that can occur with certain medical conditions or surgical procedures. Levophed is often used during or after CPR (cardio-pulmonary resuscitation).
As far as the why for gall bladder drainage procedure, Pete Blanc (who I thought might be on this site and who is a surgeon) gave this explanation:
"To those who are puzzled, the gall bladder ordinarily stores and concentrates bile between meals. Food leaving the stomach and entering the duodenum triggers a release of a hormone that stimulates gall bladder contraction. But this does not happen when one is not eating normally. The bile within the gall bladder becomes thick and sludge-like and bile in the gall bladder neck and cystic duct can become inspissated resulting in a blockage of bile flow. Bacteria, ordinarily found in gall bladder bile in very low concentrations, can multiply in the stagnant bile. The resulting gall bladder inflammation is called "acalculous cholecystits" (acalculous = no stones). For a person who is not in shape for surgical removal of the gall bladder, alternatives are either needle aspiration or percutaneous catheter cholecystostomy (drainage of the gall bladder with a small catheter) done under ultrasound guidance."
I looked up word inspissated: means thickened or congealed.
I'm learning a lot about many medical things. Just wish it wasn't because of Terry's challenges. Very happy to hear about each and every positive sign of recovery. Prayers continue for Terry and Margaret.

Posts from Margaret on FB yesterday and today:
Yesterday he had surgery to remove one of IVs and put one in his neck. He had a CAT scan this morning and as of about half an hours ago, she said he was in his room sleeping and doing well. She also said she had gotten 8 hours of sleep last night (great news!). From what a friend asked, I believe he is still on the vent.
Margaret also mentioned that tomorrow is Terry's birthday.

That is very tough.
From a lot of experience with people in the lymphoma patient community getting scanned, nodules in the lungs are fairly common and very often are not important. I hope that is the case here and that things start improving again.

OneMatch: "A week from today, Terry is undergoing open heart surgery in which the doctors will stop his heart and replace both his mitral and aortic valves. Please keep a fellow paddler in your thoughts."
Jerry et all, thanks so much! Had hoped with all the cardiac "Repairs" last year and earlier this year that things would improve? But they found that I had a problem with two valves instead of just the one we were aware of. drnatus, that was my hope too, but too much "Scarring" from radiation treatments, so "Open heart" it will be on Monday.
In the meantime, let me tell you'all how much I appreciate all the support and love I've felt here the last few years! Jimmy Stewart's character in "It's a Wonderful Life" has nothing on me in terms of friends, wife, and angels! 'Ol "Clarence" certainly pales in comparison to MY guardian angels; I'm a VERY fortunate man! Hopefully 2020 will find me back on the Gunflint listening to the loon music and my little white throated sparrows serenading me through the pines? That's my goal. THANKS AGAIN!

Yes, my heart goes out to Margaret. When Spartan1 had sepsis and was in the hospital for more than a week a few years ago, I was thorougly exhausted. '"Terry has Cirrhosis of the liver from fatty liver. Pancreatitis found a lump on it. Gallbladder problems.'' There are other causes of cirrhosis.. google them

We saw some on the ocean while we were on the ferry.. They have finished nesting and raising young.. Only a puffin winters on the cold North Atlantic . Does that make it a true snowbird? . ( well there may be others). Hope you have gotten to see some.
They are on several Maine Islands but not all.. Best is Machias Seal Island . Its in New Brunswick technically.. If you come book way ahead like a year cause the tours are restricted and book fast!
I am thinking hard about going to Rendezvous.. Precious friends there . Can't take them for granted. We are all marching on the downward escalator.
Margaret wrote that he is still on the vent and in a medically induced coma. He may be woken on Saturday and taken off the vent.

Best of luck bro. That sounds kinda rough. I won’t say any prayers lest God strike me down for the sin of being disingenuous, but keep hangin and bangin and trust everything will be ok.
Peace and cheers, scat

Because of fluid built up, the surgery to close his chest had to be delayed and he needed dialysis and drugs to keep him paralyzed during this time. This morning, Margaret posted that the surgery to close his chest would likely be done this afternoon. Margaret posted 3 hours ago that Terry was out of surgery and his chest was finally closed. Shortly after that post she posted that Terry would be off the vent tomorrow.
I'm continuing with my prayers for him and hope you will continue with your positive thoughts for his recovery and healing and supportive thoughts for Margaret too.

Yes, massive hugs, indeed! So glad to get good news.
We spent last night at Naniboujou Lodge and are now headed south to end our vacation in the canoe country. Thought about Terry so much and said many prayers, but they won't stop now.

I have a family member who was on dialysis and the feeding tube not long ago and now she walks miles everyday. Here's hoping the same outcome for Terry.

I'll admit that I sometimes just pop into FB and Margaret's page to check for updates. Understatement to say that this had been a difficult time. So happy to see all the supportive comments to Terry and Margaret on FB and here. I posted the other day telling her and telling her to tell Terry how many Flying Moosers had been sending best wishes and prayers.
I'll be sure to share further updates I see on FB if Kim doesn't.
Don't know if this is appropriate but Terry has a gofundme page:

Definitely keeping him in my thoughts. At times like these, I always try to remember that the reason they do these difficult procedures is because they really can work and have great outcomes. Hoping that is what he and his loved ones get.

Good to hear. What Ntcry said again. Thought about and prayed for him last week - and for all who face these realities. When you have to sell your good canoes because of health issues its not fun. I’m only about to be 49 and I have had a bad knee all year - problem not yet identified. Able to do two trips so far but it keeps getting worse and it makes you wonder. We are not guaranteed another trip or another day. So heres to a speedy recovery Ozark!

This is absolutely terrible news. I think I can say that we all were hoping for and expecting a complete recovery--and a return to canoe country. Peace and fond memories to Terry's family and friends.
