Northern Mn is getting slammed with rain this week. Ely had a river going down main street yesterday and there is another batch of rain coming this morning. It's really, really wet out there. Portages are going to be a mess. The only saving grace is there are no fires.
September can be awfully dry and we have had a few infamous wild fires in Sept. The 100,000 acre Pagami Creek fire was in Sept.

Tomcat: "Just returned from trip. It rained every day the portages were often streams and muddy but the water levels were low. Many pull overs and shallow entry and exit points.
I prefer high water to low water and wet muddy portages don't bother me when I am wearing rubber boots. The biggest problem for me is multiple days of rain when you can't see the other side. It is not so bad weathering days of rain if your trip is long enough to see some nice days, ours was not.
On a solo with a challenging route as long as I am not wind bound I can tolerate overcast rainy conditions but sitting in a tent or under a tarp with my 70 year old friend on his first BWCA experience - not so much. In the future if my trip is short and the weather forecast is a wash out I probably won't go.

I think in much of the area the recent rains are bringing water levels closer to normal. Not really high.

I lucked out on my 3 trips this year. Waiting to see how October looks before I decide if I am going back in or not.

The rain can make some low beaver dams passable without a pull over so certainly there are pluses and minuses. Rain is never fun in the woods. Can't believe how much rain Minnesota has seen this year so far. Already decided to wait until October so I can go at the spur of the moment.

That is how I feel. I don't mind the rain and sometimes it is nice to mix it up a bit. But if it is never ending and all can do is just sit under a tarp then it is just miserable.

Yep, just cut a day and a half off our trip. Out yesterday and would have stayed to the end, but the slow fishing didn’t justify it. NOAA forecast was not encouraging either. Probably the wettest outing of all my trips

I was doing my daily check of the forecast as my wife and I are headed up the 27th and entering at Lake One on the 28th to enjoy the fall colors and hopefully the Aurora Borealis. Accuweather and The Weather Channel show there is currently a flood advisory. Hoping everyone currently in the wilderness is ok. I wonder what kind of impact a 2-3 inch rain has on the lakes and rivers.
