Now look up Baader-Meinhof.

Having been stationed in Germany in the early 70's, I was very aware of the Baader-Meinhof gang, but I never knew there was a Baader-Meinhof syndrome until now.

Guess it is time to shift gears. Lake had an inch (plus) of ice stretching at least 60 feet from shore. We had a heck of a time breaking through tonight so it might have been the last paddle until spring. This year we paddled from the day of ice out until the day of ice up.

Time to start baking cookies or something I guess.

I had to look up this "hygee" thing.
Contentment comes mostly when I am either outdoors or looking out a window. I learned from the dying the importance of enjoying life so make the effort to get my hygee on several times a day. My resting pulse runs between 45-50.

Currently dogless. Just lost our water spaniel last month after a 3 year battle with diabetes. Looking at Boykins but maybe gonna wait til I retire.

Enjoying day-old, reheated, black coffee poured from a mud caked thermos while sitting on a folding stool in a duck blind,in 3 inches of frozen muck. Must be a sliding scale.....

Thermos coffee is the best coffee. Best wishes for a successful hunt! Do you have a retriever, cowdoc?

jillpine's posts make me smile! She's a fine addition to this community.

I like to spend more time cooking when it gets cold out. Today I made an apple tarte and gave (most of) it away at the local YMCA. I also settle into a more consistent exercise routine when there are fewer distractions/excuses; today I swam a mile. My coonhound mutt is a southern breed with a thin coat so she turns into a serious snugglebunny when it's cold outside.

The phenomenon was named in the early 90s by a contributor to the reader comments column called the "Bulletin Board" in the St. Paul Pioneer Press. People wrote in about their instances of it for years in that column. I have no clue why they named it after a terrorist group. It was already being used when I got a cheap subscription to the paper. The term probably spread the same way you just heard about it.

Good luck, ours is about froze over!

I enjoy driving around the lake and hanging out with my neighbor, who by the way bakes some great treats... good coffee too. But sitting down can only be hygge after accomplishing a good task... unless it’s 4:30am, then it’s a book by the fire and a cup of coffee... then a piece of Fred’s bacon and a couple eggs and away I go!

What's your groove during hygge season?
(One of) Mine is bread-baking.
Pro-tip: the crabbier the apiarist, the sweeter the honey.

Not sure about "hygge season" but in winter the Dutch Ovens and Romertopf come into play much more often.

This clay pot bakes a full 2 pound loaf.

Sharp cheddar sour dough biscuits made yesterday. Not too bad for a crusty old guy, but gotta watch the calories, home made breads add more than good meals!

Doc, sorry to hear about your old buddy.
