I agree. But Knife Lake holds a special place in my heart. So that’s what I’m shooting for.

Are you looking at Stewart River? Merrimack?

Merrimack. They’re starting the build of my Osprey this week.

If I don’t get a Knife Lake image figured out I think I might go with a big compass.

Beautiful canoe!!

How did this canoe turn out? I have a Merrimack Traveler on order, and I can’t wait until it gets built. I’m having their compass design added. I love the idea of a lake, but I don’t know how I would narrow it down to just one lake.

The canoe AND your dogs are gorgeous! Can you tell me more about your canoe trailer?
|
Abbey

That canoe looks awesome! Now I’m even more antsy to pick mine up. Should be done in about a month.
I was going to ask about how you transport, but the trailer answers that. I have a Space Trailer with bars, so basically like car top bars. Wasn’t sure how to best protect the wood gunwales. I’ll need to do some research....guessing it’s discussed somewhere on this website.

Goldenbadger, nice to see another BWCA.commer from the Driftless area. I'm originally from Crawford County, about 25 miles north of PdC.

Thank you for the trailer information, Goldenbadger!

giddyup: "The canoe AND your dogs are gorgeous! Can you tell me more about your canoe trailer? " Thank you. The trailer is a Shorlandr. The model is SLB10TL so it’s a bunk trailer. The model number doesn’t match the weight stated on their website. According to model number, it has a 1000 lb capacity, but according to their website and our purchase paperwork, it’s 1200 lb. Long tongue. It’s for boats 13’11” - 15’11”. My canoe is only 13’ and it fits just fine on there.
A 1,000/1,200 lb capacity is a bit of overkill for a little canoe, but we also have a small boat we can throw on there. They make a 700 lb model that would work just fine, but it may have smaller wheels, not sure. I’m short and my car is tall. It’s much easier than trying to hoist it on the roof by myself, and it's very bouncy going down the highway with very little weight on the trailer.
We got it at Stark’s in Prairie du Chien, WI.

I’m looking for an image/map of Knife Lake that shows just Knife without any of the surrounding lakes and other stuff. Something very similar to this image of Saganaga. I’m trying to find something that shows good detail, including islands. Topography and bathometry would be great. I’m having a canoe built and want the image lain into the floor of the canoe. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know if you're looking for an actual picture or depth maps like these.

nctry: "Goldenbadger: "nctry: "Are you looking at Stewart River? Merrimack?" Merrimack. " You must not of liked your shipping charge from knife river on your bookshelf... haha." Lol. No issues with that shipping charge! But I absolutely fell in love with the Osprey from Merrimack.

I decided I didn’t really like how knife Lake would lay out in the canoe. I ended up going with a compass. I added my own touch to it by having them put my dog’s paw print in the middle of it. It turned out amazing.

For some reason my photo isn’t loading properly. What I attached looks nothing like what’s showing up. I’ll try again.

How do you plan to use it, ie. decoration or function? I recall someone published single lake topography maps on about 7x10 while plastic sheets a few years ago, but have not seen them for awhile.

I can’t get photos to load properly. They’re really messed up. But if you go to this amazon link, you’ll see the type of image I’m looking for of Knife Lake. It doesn’t need to be exactly this, but something similar. Map

You could try pool noodles or foam pipe insulation on the crossbars. You could either duct tape them on our use zip ties.
Post pics of yours here when you get it! Are you going there to pick it up or are they shipping it to you? They have a couple beautiful shop dogs you have to say hi to if you go there.

Jackfish, I had no idea you were a Driftless native! I live in Chaseburg, just a bit SE of La Crosse. Do you ever make it back down here? There’s some great paddling here.

It's still home to me, even though I've lived in the Green Bay / Appleton area for almost 30 years.

I would think any graphic design company could do that for you. Maybe approach the local HS graphic design teacher for a class project.

I have some of those. But they show extra stuff around the lake in question and Knife takes up at least two different plastic sheets. I only have the south arm.

If I were dong this I would contact some of the map companies. I would think that one or all of them might produce their maps digitally and would be able pull out a single lake and produce a map of appropriate size.

You could print an image from Google Earth. Spend some time trimming it to just the lake, and visit a printshop to enlarge, print it out. I could probably do the same with Garmin Basecamp and a Sat/aerial Birdseye subscription. CalTopo Has a lot of map options.

Treehorn may have provided just what you need.
If not, I would suggest contacting lakeart.com. They do the outlines of lakes in wood. I don't know if they would provide you with a map or an image that would work, but it might be worth talking to them. I had them do a relief map of the little lake where we have our lake cottage and it is beautiful.
