Thanks! That's actually my daughter's senior violin recital. I was looking for something low key and that I didn't have to worry about owning the rights to.

I used bait on some, usually roadkilled deer. A good trick in the summer is to fill a metal paint can with meat and drill tiny holes in the lid (too small for blow flies). Throw a skull under the tree and critters will come looking for the source of the smell all summer. But a lot of pictures were just taken at good spots. Beaver dams seem to be a big attraction in themselves.

I'll keep that info about bait in mind for some future sites I might want to check out. Currently I have my cameras setup on bridges on our property outback and they act as natural funnels. Sometimes I toss out scraps, but after I saw how it changes the behavior of the animals I don't do that much anymore. They hang around too long eating and looking for more scraps. Bait they can't eat might not have the same effect.
The trail cam pics aren't anywhere as nice as yours. I may decide to delve into using that type of setup in the future.

Thanks for the kind comments! Mocha, 3/4 of these photos were taken just north of Duluth, off of the Foxfarm road on public land. A few were even from the woods near my house in the city limits of Duluth. The ones that are obviously in a spruce forest are taken near my cabin in Isabella, which is near Sand Lake on Lake County 2.
The cameras are homemade. Basically you buy an old point and shoot and hook it up to a device that turns the camera on and shutters a picture when motion is detected. You can buy such a device ready made (camera has to be hacked).
Big improvement in photos comes with improved lighting. I use a slave flash offset from the camera. This is key, as any photographer knows. There's commercial trail cameras out there that take pretty nice day pictures but the night photos always suck because of the flash they use.

Given that a lot of us are more or less stuck inside this weekend, I thought you might enjoy seeing my new video .
A few years ago, I put together a compilation of camera trap photos I had collected over the course of about three years. I did it on the spur of the moment, and it always bugged me that I didn't spend more time selecting and arranging the photos. So recently, I went through my photos again and came up with this collection, arranged by time of year. I hope you enjoy!
