Nothing yet, as far as I know. Yes, he was in Mankato.

Damn... I was just texting with him a few days ago.
I bought my solo from him a couple years back.
We chatted fairly often he will be missed.

Had to dig for this photo. Brian and Ramsey heading out of Round Lake access July of some year.

Shocked this morning to find out Brian, aka GSP (and briefly “JellyBean”), has left this world. I had the pleasure of tripping with him and his beloved German Shorthaired Pointer, Marco, in fall of 2018. We’ve lost a good guy.

I was very sad to find this as well. GSP took me on my very first trip back in the 1990s! He was a really good guy and I will always be indebted to him for showing me the ropes! Boy, did I have a lot to learn!
I’ll never forget the day we spent paddling across Crooked Lake in a light drizzle with no wind! It was mystical! I’ll also remember sitting under the rain tarp smoking stogies and solving the worlds problems! What a great trip we had and I can’t believe how it put the canoe country in my soul!
Thanks again Brian, and may you Rest In Peace!

What terrible news. I met Brian, quite a few years ago now, back in the CCBB days. Always enjoyed chatting with him. He loved taking solo canoe trips and his German Shorthaired Pointers who always accompanied him (hence his board name GSP). My sincere condolences to his family.

Only paddled with GSP once. Extremely nice guy and we both share the love of paddling and German Shorthairs. Two of the guys in this picture have now found calmer waters.

Wow, wasn't expecting to read this. I'd just chatted with him on this site's chat window like three days ago. We talked about our GSPs and I asked some Q advice. Which led me to his trip report of swamping on Pickerel.
Rest In Peace. When I said I had to go, he said, "Have a good life". I hesitated a bit, but still logged off. Dang...
Thanks for the last second pointers, and talk of our Pointers

This is so sad. I find myself almost unable to fully accept this, it seems so surreal to me and for the last few hours I have been haunted with sorrow. We shared the love of our German Shorthaired Pointers. I liked his GSP tee shirt that he wore on so many canoe trips.

My wife and I met Brian at that get together. He gave me a gift just out of the blue and to be honest his generosity showed through. He let his dog Marco sit on my wife’s lap to keep her warm while we sat around the fire that night. May you find peace and happiness Brian.

Very Sad news indeed... While I never met him, I know the character of a man of that nature! Always let people know how much you appreciate them, unfortunately we are not guaranteed tomorrow. Prayers for the family!

Very shocked to see this news. I met Brian at a dog park with his gsp and could tell he was devoted to his dog and this breed. Also ran into him and another board member, Ramsey, at the round lake landing. Always chatty and a kind man
Was he still living in Mankato?

I see nothing so far in the way of obit/services. The only thing I saw was a post from his sister saying a celebration of his life tbd, not before February. I don't know if this would be in Mankato where he lived, or in Iowa where he grew up. I'll post if I see anything.

OK it's been a while and I screwed up replying with a quote. Anyway I repeated Maverick's post because that line about putting canoe country in my soul spoke long and loud to me. I am indebted to the guy that first invited me along and showed me what it was all about and found that line to be about the best tribute someone can give a fellow camper.

Sad news. I believe he worked in Ponsford, Mn as a social worker or teacher on the White Earth Indian Rez, years ago and at the same time I lived there. Though I never met him, I knew he had strong convictions, as we jousted on the political forum a time or two. My prayer is that he takes/teaches his passion and love for others, on his next journey.
