Looking for a weekend sleep in the cold, any good recommendations for camping in Southern WI that are accessible year round?

Many WI State Parks have some winter camps. Kettle Moraines North and South, Whitewater in the SW part and Gov. Dodge, possibly much more depends on plowing and popularity. I've been to many and happy to work in specifics far as I can via E-mail.

Always thought Wyalusing was a beautiful park. Doubt there is many winter campers around there. Not sure whats open for winter camping....give them a call.

A lot of Wisconsin State Parks have some winter sites available.
Attached is a Wisconsin DNR list that may help you.

Forgot to add that if you want to hop across the river Whitewater SP in MN has winter camping, and snowshoeing. In March they do a Sryuping program twice a day. office hrs are 9-4 during the winter.

Its been a few years, but we've stayed at Perrot state park, its on the Mississippi north of LaCrosse. Now that we got some snow I would expect that the ski trails are open.
We called the park directly to make the arrangements, as the staffing and facilities reflect the off season and I don't think that it was open online.

Thanks all for the suggestions, I have a four season tent that is collecting dust so I'm hoping to freeze my butt off sometime soon.

This might be of some help.The Ice Age trail in the Kettle Southern Unit has some remote shelters. You can camp in the shelter or outside of it

I did ice age trail on the north unit. Was not supposed to be winter but sure was. Philmont prep trip. Very nice. We arrived after dark and made it a short ways to shelter - 2nd from north end - forget name. Continued to south end over weekend. Saw no one .

Kettle Moraine SF-North has some nice backpacking shelters. In order south to north; Shelter 1 by Kewauskum, shelter 2 by Mauthe Lake, shelter 3 by Dundee WI, and shelter 4 by Parnell Tower, and shelter 5 by Greenbush. I think shelter 4 is the farthest from a parking lot (1 mile?) but it’s also my favorite. Mauthe Lake campground has some electrical sites plowed at the beginning of the campground. I didn’t think about this until now, but one could possibly park at one of the lots and haul gear via sled to a campsite further back. My ideal winter sites would be the lower 400s where they’re set in a sheltered area away from the open lake and unlikely to see any vehicles driving thru due to the higher snow levels this year.
