Horrible news, condolences to family and his many BWCA friends. Never met him but well aware of his wisdom and generosity on this site. I have several samples of his craft but the symbolism of those is far beyond the cup. There's another thread in here somewhere about the passing of BWCA legends, but for now I am so sorry and he will be missed.

Sad indeed. I was envious of his talent as well as his love of his chosen profession. Not everyone loves their work but in the few conversations I had with Mitch that was always something he stressed. He was also very generous with his leather work. When someone was down and out he would make them a gift. My condolences to his family.

Thoughts and prayers for Mitch's family. He was one of the best and will be missed.
The Visitation/Wake is this coming Saturday March 14 from 12 - 5pm. All BWCA.comers are welcome. Please stop into his workshop if you can as his leather art meant so much to him.
For those down at Canoecopia, which will include myself, we will take some time at the dinner to recognize.

Yes. It was just about this time of evening that Mitch and I would be the last two BWCA members still remaining in the Chat Room. We'd converse a while and then he'd have to go off and check on patients and I'd wait. Of course, he was sometimes on all night, and I'd have to call it a night along about 3:00 AM.
God's speed Mitch. I will definitely miss our "private" early morning chats. You see, you don't have to be sitting across a table from someone to see inside their soul. In some of those magic moment, you can see it pouring from the ends of their fingertips.

So sorry to hear this tragic news. I have met with Mitch several times and even had the privilege of visiting him at his workshop where he made all of his wonderful leather creations. He has made a few personal Beer huggies for me as well a leather sheath for my husband's Axe. He was One Special person and will be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and loved ones. RIP Mitch.

Fall 2011 Wingnight He was a nice guy. I will miss his posts and seeing him at Wingnights. I always thought of him when I slid a bottle of O'Doules in the leather dicecup holder I got from him. I knew he worked a lot of overnights and holidays in a care facility and I really admired him for that and his craftsmanship. Very sad news.

When it comes to nice people, there There are not many that stack up to the kindness in loving heart that Mitch had for others. Mitch, was a giver not a taker and he showed it and lived it and I remember all of the posts I had of his boys in the scouting adventures and his Passion for a leather making and I would chat with him sometimes about his job and you could tell he was a star individual at work and had a Passion for people. He will be truly missed prayers for his family such a sad loss. SunCatcher

I never met Mitch. But what I conveyed from his posts and interactions with the members on this board and me, he was awesome! His leather work was great (wish I had a piece of his work).
If it is ok to ask, how did he pass away?
God bless.

Mitch has been on my mind for a few weeks now. During the shutdown, I have not been visiting my dad as usual, so we connect by Zoom and play Yahtzee. I use a custom dice cup Mitch made that I gave my kids long ago. That dice cup is indestructible and amazing.
Long ago, I worked with him to create a "family crest" design for an older relative. He was easy to work with and the final result was a leather wall hanging worthy of museum status.
I also have a custom holder he made for me that fits a Mike's hard lemonade, and a generic bear paw can holder. I treasure them all.
I was thinking of ordering more items from Mitch and a google search revealed his obituary. I watched the memorial video at the funeral home web site and sat in tears looking at his wonderful life, his BWCA shirts/hats/license plate, and his art.
LIFE IS SO NOT FAIR!!!!!! RIP Dicecupmaker, you are missed.

A good send off yesterday for Mitch. I know many people are staying clear of gatherings, but his wake was well attended with family and friends. Many great pictures and memories of Mitch at the wake. Who knew Mitch played a mean game of tennis in his youth? :)
The tour of his workshop was very powerful. The countless hours he spend to toiling over his work benches. Everything in its place. The walls covered with memories.

Wow,that is shocking news, very sad loss all around, his family etc. He was always giving on this site, and like many losses on this site this past year, its a loss that can't be replaced.
His leather cups and bottle holders at no cost and great work of art was something else. Looking at mine right now. Thanks Mitch for all you added to this site with messages and other givings and now prayers to his family and all concerned.

I did not know who Mitch was. I've only been part of the site for less than a year but came to this post after receiving one of his dice cups from BWCA.com. His craftsmanship is really good and I wanted to know more about him.
Unfortunately this was the first thing I read about him. I wish I would have met him on the trail at some point. I feel grateful to have received one of his cups. I don't have any memories of him but I hope to bring this cup along to create new ones.

Thanks for posting this. Many nights he would stop by the chat room on this site. I never met him but from his posts and his generous donations of leather works I know he was a good man. He boasted about his kids a lot, and also shared insights into healthcare. Such a sad loss for so many people.

Fair winds and following seas on your next voyage Mitch. Such sad news. What a wonderful guy. I haven’t been around the site much for a couple years or so but back when I was more active I had a lot of awesome discussions with him. Enjoyed meeting him once as well. So sad. I’ll think of you each time I use your beautiful leatherwork bottle, can coozies and gun strap. You’ll surely be missed by many including your BWCA family.
