Bushpilot: " Been through there hundreds of times. The sign always makes me wonder about the guy that doesn't get his mail."

That guy carries a grudge for the long term. He's been signing since the 80's.

c. Outdoor activities. Individuals may engage in outdoor activities (e.g., walking, hiking, running, biking, driving for pleasure, hunting, or fishing), and may go to available public parks and other public recreation lands, consistent with remaining at least six feet apart from individuals from other households. This does not exempt public accommodations that may feature outdoor activities from closure under Executive Order 20-04 and does not permit trespass upon private property

Driving for pleasure, I am going to take that as flying for pleasure is okay.

Oh nice. I was actually super interested in driving for pleasure as I was thinking of heading up to my cabin for a night.

driving to the BDub is not driving for pleasure it is purely medically related, an attempt at controlling depression, passive aggressive behaviors, and general sanity.....

Not thinking of putting a sign in your yard?

Reminds me a of a few places in the Black Hills on the way to the scout camp near the Crazy Horse monument.

A sign, Hell no, being greeted in the driveway by an old, neckid fat guy with a beer in one hand and a 45 in the other conveys an understanding that mere words alone cannot ever clearly articulate.

He has had signs for as long as I can remember. Probably some super chill guy lol.

The post office won’t deliver his mail. Seems unlikely. Or a ‘get off my lawn’ scenario gone overboard.

I will happily bring him mine. Flyers for drape cleaning, carpet cleaning, upholstery cleaning, duct cleaning...

I definitely agree that we all need to get outside. We feel lucky that our neighborhood walk is open space on the bluffs above the ocean with lots of birds and small critters. Saw an animal trail the other day that needs to be something coyote or bobcat size. And we even had a mountain lion sighting last year. But just once. We rarely get deer in that area so it must have gone back to more forested areas. With just the locals we can do a good job spacing out. Add in weekend tourists and no way it works. If I lived in a bigger town I’d have to deal with a less wild walk but our commute would be shorter.

But people are enjoying those more urban walks too based on conversations I’ve had with friends and colleagues. It is easier to enjoy them with less traffic.

Right now it is the best of both worlds for us. Great place to live and my commute is a 20’ walk.

We were the second area hit in the country and after two weeks of stay at home orders the hospitals are seeing fewer hospitalizations than they expected. This can work.

And good advice on not texting and driving. Emptier roads should mean easier times staying safe if people do that.

Haven't flown in about three weeks here, and it's driving me nuts! The three FBOs I tend to rent from are all still operating - the biggest visible difference is the 30 minutes between reservations they're taking a plane out of service for cleaning and disinfecting.

Interesting, driving for pleasure is not allowed here near SF. One of the reasons is to cut down on traffic accidents (hospitals don't need extra patients) and the other is to prevent people from overloading parks and beaches to the point where social distancing isn't maintained and bathrooms become an issue (which happened the first weekend of our stay at home orders).

Flying got mentioned on our local Nextdoor today but I think that was largely someone enjoying a new reason to complain about the airport near their house. I think the pleasure air traffic is low enough that it isn't a real problem.

However, I do worry about people going to their cabins. If you are an asymptomatic carrier then you could spread the disease. If you can go to your cabin and not interact with locals then that should be fine. But I seriously wonder if trips to the cabin is how Ely will really get hit as spring shows up.

People need to get out... just be a bit more cautious! Fingers crossed, but our pagers have been silent for the most part. Hiking and paddling where there is open water. But snowmobiling and atv riding... please be careful.

And if you're pleasure driving or going to get essentials, please don’t text and drive. The percentage of auto accidents that I’ve been to that are alcohol related and texting related are staggering to me. Texting being the more common.

My concern on the people that are actually driving to cabins are the ones who have been traveling elsewhere. Such as the one case in our county now... he’s local, but he’s traveled in the past few months. Our local little store has seen an increase in cabin dwellers coming up. Please be careful!

For one, our local hospitals are not as equipped. So most if not all needing ventilators go to Duluth. Their capacities are pretty good but could fill up fast compared to the facilities in the cities. I see people doing a fair amount of travel. Easy to stay at home when the sap is flowing... but when we do need to replenish our tp supplies, it’s best to go alone and keep these trips few and far between.

Bush pilot, flying would be a great way to get out... I have a cousin in Indiana who is doing that a lot. It must be eerie to see the roads below so bare now.
