I have often thought Gijikiki was a unique name.

Kekekabic. My husband always leaves out the second "kek".

And how do you pronounce Saganaga? Which syllable gets the accent.

But when you said "goofy" I was thinking about things like Carrot and Parsnip? Really? I think those are goofy lake names, but at least I can pronounce them.

Clove Lake: been there many times. Doesn't look like cloves, doesn't smell like cloves, I don't think cloves are an indigenous plant in the area.

And Clove Lake is next to Larch Lake. I used to think "larch" was an old term for "leech," and after having many on the bottom of my boat one time, the meaning stuck. Now I come to find that larch is a type of tamarack! Duh.

GopherAdventure: "Hey Everyone,

I’m trying to put together a little compilation of goofy named lakes. You know, the lakes that everyone in your group pronounces differently. Here’s an example: Ge-be-on-e-quet, I’ve heard as many pronunciations as there are letters in that one. Got any you’d like to share?

Tony"

Other than what's been mentioned already...
Kawishiwi is fun to say. Kids stumble around with it. To the north of it, Kawaschong gets some different pronunciations.
Lac La Croix also get some different interpretations depending on how "French" everyone tries to pronounce it with. And there's often someone who says, "Lake La Croy".
It's not a matter of pronunciation, but word order: "Little Indian Sioux River North" v. "Little Indian River Sioux North" v. "Little Sioux River Indian North" v. "North Little Indian Sious River".

I can't recall where, but I read once that the some pronounce "Kawishiwi" as "cash-way." Anyone else heard of this?

Yeah, that was hilarious. I got a kick out of Adam talking about Gebe as well. My wife and I always have fun thinking up new ways to say Saganaga. The funny thing is, neither of us have ever been on the lake itself.
