Don't know if canoe country got hit as hard (or at all) but, we had heavy downfall yesterday on the Iron Range.

cowdoc: "We just got back...Crab lake area. Dry, but not bone dry. We skipped fire 2 nights cuz we thought a little too windy. No bans for us but use caution. Unlike the schmucks that left their morning fire smoldering on Cummings Island site. Wind flamed it up to full burn campfire that we went up and fully drenched. Little disturbing to paddle past empty site and see a campfire burning...."
Thanks for your vigilance! Been hearing this story too much.

Its suppose to cool down this week, if hot weather returns than I could see a change in fire regs..

It is getting dry up there, but okay for now.

I am at Birch Lake Campground now. Had a good thunderstorm last night, enough to wet thing down and the forecast is for more showers for the next few days. I don’t think there will be any bans with the forecast and the cooler temps. Just use good practices, don’t leave your fire, put it out at night and have a good trip. The leaves are great now!

The FS tends not to have fire bans after September even if conditions are very dry because the cooler weather and shorter days are considered less risky for a major fire to spread. But hard to say this year what they will do because of increased traffic in the BWCA.

Heading in on October 3rd and can't find anywhere about fire restrictions. Anyone know where I can find if there are any?

They are getting some moisture as we speak and with cooler weather I think we will make it until snow flies now.

Still dry up there. Back in early August, LLC was still 2 to 4ft below normal. Mark at Anderson's Outfitters said it was a lack of snow/snow melt from last winter. Hopefully we'll get a bit more snow this year!
