Well, Mocha, I can agree with your sentiments--but where the hell IS IT??
I cannot believe I took this photo at the end of the canoe trip and made no note of where we were at that time. and it really doesn't matter, but it just puzzles me.

Nice chapel.

Kind of reminds me of the chapel on one of the two islands on which the Lutheran church camp Wilderness Canoe Base is located near the end of the Gunflint Trail in Seagull Lake, but I am not sure of that. The 2007 fire burned most of the camp but the chapel and main lodge survived the fire. I helped with the rebuilding effort in 2008.

I can't help but chuckle at we're asking "where the hell is it?" regarding a pic of a chapel. :-)
BTW, I'm sure the things I did in 1977 didn't make a lot of sense either!

That would be an interesting guess, but we never even saw the Gunflint Trail or any of its lakes until 1992. Since this is a 1977 photo. . .

Sorry if I seemed irreverant. It is a pretty little outdoor chapel, and who knows, perhaps it was somewhere on our route home. For all I know it may be in Michigan's U P!
And yes, Jerry, things were different in 1977. In a lot of ways. :-)

Hi. I am doing a book on Snapfish that includes narrative and photos from three canoe trips (another "Going Back in Time" volume), 1974 BWCA, and 1977 and 1980 in Quetico. At the end of the group of photos from the 1977 trip I have a picture of the Prairie Portage Ranger Station, and then this one immediately following. Does anyone recognize this structure? Can you identify it for me?
Thanks.

Looks to me like a typical outdoor chapel at a summer camp. I've seen similar chapels at Boy Scout Camps in northern WI. That is not one I recognize, however.

It does look like something you would see at a scout (or other youth) camp. If you were just at PP then took this next, maybe it was at Charles L Sommers Canoe Base - it is pretty much next to the Moose Lake entry. You could always email it to them and ask if anyone there remembers it.

Well, we didn't stop there, but if it could be seen from the route to the Moose Lake Entry, that might be it. It is a puzzle why I took this photo. But then, I suppose a lot of things I did in 1977 are puzzling to me now.
Thanks.

All sorts of chances. My photos from that era (1977) are very disorganized. Not worth a lot of effort to identify, I 'll just leave it out of the book.
Thanks.

email it to an Ely outfitter. I'm sure if this is from that area, one of the Olsons at CCO would know.
No chance its was first ir last, and not from BWCA?

this is a photo of a really nice chapel in the woods. the stories it could tell! how many and different types of services were held under this shelter? worship, marriages, remembrances, just getting out of the rain....
