If you have a library you might be able to order all the books and read them in order. It’s not totally important to read them in order, but if you do then some storyl8nes will make sense. Plus you will become personally invested in the characters. You will love his books, especially if you have been to the areas he writes about.
When you are done with all those then start on the Joe Pickett series by C J box. Not bwca but wilderness. Bitterroot mountains Wyoming game warden and all the shenagins in a game wardens life. The current tv series Big Sky is based on one of his books.

“Backcountry” I believe this film is on Netflix and takes place in a Canadian Provincial Park. I don’t recall if they mention the park’s name, but it is clearly boreal forest and could easily be the Q, or any of the other Ontario Parks. It’s about a couple on a canoe trip that end up getting attacked by a bear.
I’ve also read all of the William Kent Krueger books and wish they’d make a movie or two out of his novels.

Boy am I glad they didn't film Deliverance based on the BWCA. Whew!! They could never make a film like that now especially with the stereotyping.
Too bad they smashed up a wood canvas canoe for the movie too.

Oh yeah, forgot about this one. Pretty interesting film. If I remember correctly, the ending could have used a bit of work.

Never saw this one, but to keep my sanity out in the Wilderness I think I will keep it that way, haha.

Lol, unfortunately I saw this one only weeks before a trip. The fact that it’s based on a true story is pretty traumatizing. However, it’s a really well done film and actually quite good if your not going camping in bear country shortly after viewing it:)

Good call Banks, this is a good film.
For those of you who like to sing along, The Voyageurs. "
Great short film! Amazing what the Voyageurs did on a daily basis. Thanks for sharing!

Another author that writes about the outdoors is Joseph Heywood. The Woods Cop series is about a game warden in Michigan's UP, very entertaining. Don't forget the best outdoor writer of all time Patrick F. McManus !

I could picture some movies that were made about a river that could have been done in the BWCA- Deliverance? A River Runs Through it? But could a film company actually secure permission to do a movie in the BWCA?

I also watched the Silencing a couple nights ago. It was decent. There's certianly way worse to be found on Netflix or Prime.

The movie “A Beautiful Mind” doesn’t feature the BWCA but Prairie Portage Minnesota is mentioned by Dr. Nash as a routing place for Moscow. He points it out on a map too.
I don’t know how to link a YouTube movie clip but you can search “John Nash decodes Soviet Messages Youtube” and watch it.

Thanks for mentioning this author.

Another vote for C. J. Box and William Kent Krueger. I have read all of these. In the case of Box, If you get a chance to go in person or virtually to one of his signings or meetings, Do so. I have gone twice to our library's author series and enjoyed my time there. If in person, take a few books for his signature as well. If needed, it is likely that his latest book will be for sale for you to buy and then get his signature,

A friend of mine just recommended a book called Wintering by Peter Geye, I haven't read it yet but he said it was good, C.J. Box and Joe Pickett are great, and Copper River by William Kent Krueger was also very good

"THE SILENCING" Is was thinking about this while on the Echo Trail going to I-Falls. I see similarities between the movie and Ely. What was the name of the town? Echo Falls? The Echo sign does not have the orange snowmobile trail marker.
There is an Echo MN, it is in the SW part of the state.

I was browsing Movies the other night and I came across a film called "THE SILENCING" that is suppose to be based in the boundary waters area (was filmed in the sudbury ontario area). The town was fictional and called "echo falls", but it was suppose to be on the edge of the boundary waters in Minnesota. A scene in the film even mentions the boundary waters by name. It got me wondering what other films have featured (or at least supposedly featured the bwca). Anyone know of other films?

On a scale of 1-10 latrines, how many would you give The Silencing? (10 being best!)

fadersup: "On a scale of 1-10 latrines, how many would you give The Silencing? (10 being best!) " I'd score it lower if it wasn't for the setting choice, but maybe a 6. I have seen better for sure... but I have also seen a whole lot worse.
