Pinetree: "This came up in a angling BWCA forum-just transferred it here.

I remember like around 1990 it was still there. Remember being inside it for a few minutes back than and it had lot of pictures on the wall with stringers of walleyes and gas stove etc. in the cabin

Also about a year later on opening fishing season opener all kinds of people there when we canoed by.

Also camping nearby lakes a airplane landed there and took off.

I know the cabin burnt down. But how and when?

Also I have not been that way in awhile-any remenants of the cabin or out buildings?"

Remember reading this, great thread and pictures of the cabin both prior and post fire.

Stole this by a post from Kevlar 2016:

Bruceye, that cabin on Fraser was there in about 1980. I talked to an older man there who said the owner had been a young man when he had to choose whether to sell the cabin to the F.S. or keep it and never be able to sell it or pass it on (when he would die, it would become F.S. property). He kept it and used it winter and summer for another 30 years or so. The F.S. would let him bring a snowmobile in in the winter, and a motor on his canoe in the summer. After the owner died the FS gave the family time to take anything they wanted, took all the metal stuff out, and then burned it

Do you know which island this cabin was on? I snooped around a little looking for the remnants when I passed through on a trip a few years back, but didn’t know which island to check. I heard there were some concrete steps and a plaque of some sorts still there.

You look at your topog map it is the island(I think) just east of the elev 1530 number out in the lake. It is south and west of Gerund lake entrance, aprox. 1 mile. If not it is the next Island to the west.
