When paddling here it seems like the bottom just sucks you down and stops you.

The only one that fits your description I can think of was a lake on the border called Rat lake. Every paddle stroke was like I had the anchor out dragging. But this was many moons ago that I was at this lake, only a guess.

Even the old Ranger when you got a permit, talked about the mud sucking you down as you paddled here.

People come and go from many directions and a Trumpeter Swan nest is frequent on a different lake 100 yards west of where this picture was taken. Youth groups pass thru for the day or loop trips.

A Winner it is, a bouquet for you.

From the first picture it is about two miles to the main lake and when water is down a little bit, what many call loon poop(alternative to S---- poop) it is like 2 feet of water and many feet of this stuff and it is tough paddling for some reason.

Mocha-so so close, one little portage away. You could of taken the picture of Rose from Rat lake almost at the campsite between the two lakes. Yes Rat is a mud sucking canoe hole also.

Oops, I was typing when Mocha beat me to Rat lake.

But I will have to disagree with you if you think Rose is a pass through lake. It has 5 spectacular 500’ palisades, and 8 campsites. Rose lake has a maximum depth of 80 feet.

From your clues most don’t stop there, and the bottom stops you I guessed Rat. Rat is definitely a pass through so called lake, more of a pond. Rat lake deepest is only 5 feet. It is really a weird feeling as you paddle and not go forward as much as you would think. Rat is a pass through lake.

But the next clue you posted with the palisades I recognized it but Pineknot already had it.

Rose is one of the most prettiest lakes in the BWCA. Called it a pass thru for many because I see them coming from Gunflint, Mountain lake, Duncan lake and yes a few from Arrowhead many of them just moving along.

The bluffs on Rose are awesome. Youth groups, always see well guided Woman-girl groups from the YMCA. They always were polite and were good canoers etc.
That Bay of Rose has like two miles of that shallow area loon crap mud and been thru there when a lot of it was like 1 foot deep. Seemed like we had a anchor out while paddling.

Yes hit the main basin and I have caught lake trout, but hard to come by. It is full of nice whitefish if you want to fish for them. Some do in the winter.
