I think that's site #1712. We stayed there in 2019 and really liked it. I thought that the chain was pretty cool also and it appears at 2:02 in this video: Gabbro Trip
I'm assuming it dates back to the logging days and secured some type of vessel or log containment to shore.

This is my thought w/ all the ones I've seen up there. Logging related. Or hold a boat dock to shore.

Is that the island campsite? Maybe to hold the old fire grate in place?

I've meant to do this for a while, I saw this on Gabbro in 2013. That whole site is basically one huge rock. At some time, someone installed this chain in the rock. I'd be interested in what this might have been used for.

Logging I would think, no? There's one on a site in Quetico Lake too.

I would agree. My guess would be to anchor one end of a log boom. I recall seeing one or two on Ima also.

Actually more common than you'd think. Here's an impressive one on Clear Lake site #1691.

These things are all over the place. Jordan Lake has them, as well as logging junk, like barrel staves, in the woods. Ima Lake, Brule Lake, Fourtown Lake have similar.I agree with Schweady...there is a lot more than people think. There is a lot of cool junk out there.

We tied our canoes down at a Fourtown site with one. No chain left on it but the ring bolt in the rock was still there
