Nobody wants to be worried about “clearance” when on the thunderbox. Yikes! Tony"
Especially as we age, things tend to hang a little more

GopherAdventure: "eyestalker: "Recently did a Kawishiwi River trip and ended up snagging camp 1704. Now it's only rated a 2 on here, but it was the 11th campsite we came across with the first 10 either being full or not in area we were intending on fishing and with such a small group it was "adequate". The latrine was full of beetles and was about 8" from the top of "you know what". Obviously it hasn't seen much maintenance, but it prly should soon? Any way to report it to the NFS so it can be spruced up or closed down? "
Latrine age is beginning to be a problem throughout the BWCA because the Rangers are 2-3 years behind the normal maintenance schedule due to staffing numbers. Everyone wants more Rangers in the park and this might be a great reason to get more out there. Nobody wants to be worried about “clearance” when on the thunderbox. Yikes!

In the 1970's Superior national Forest had like 300 plus employees. Now it is 20% or less and they get delegated out to forest fires across the Nation. Forest service is way under staffed, especially this decades with all the mega fires. Need more funds and staff.

eyestalker: "Got it reported to the Ranger Office. Guy was very nice and grateful for the report." Glad to hear this. I bet they are grateful to know which thrones need immediate attention since FS understaffed.

I know in the past that the site number is on the back of the toilet. On my trip last week, there was no number on any of them.

Make an incident report with the Forest Service. Identify the lake and the number on the latrine.

Contact the forest service ranger station in ely, that is the district you were in.
They value all feedback

Well you can’t do nuthin about the beetles. You’re in the woods. They might be dung beetles chomping away at the poop. In time, the pile will settle. Tom

A six dollar bag of garden lime would help to solve the problem.
