Met my wife at the old Associated Colleges of the Midwest (now Coe) Field Station at the edge of the BW on Low Lake summer 1993. Here we are heading out together- she has since upgraded her rain gear. Note duct tape patch on Duluth pack.

Circa 1976 Carp Lake heading into Emerald in Quetico. A "few" items to note making this a vintage photo, one is my waist size of 27 inches at the time, (not so much any more) and the long blond hair of the 70's! Ha!

West Bearskin Lake on the docks at Camp Menogyn. Not quite in the BWCA so not sure if it counts. 1982. Can't believe it was almost 40 years ago.

I still use an Alumacraft canoe and love it for a number of reasons, preferring it over the kevlar ones I've paddled on a couple of trips. True, on a long hilly portage the Alumacraft is less comfortable to carry, but those portages are not common for me and just a small portion of the trip when we DO encounter them. With a weight to my Alumacraft of under 70#'s, I can bear with it when needed.

3/5ths of the Shaw family. Heading back to Tuscarora Outfitters from Long Island Lake. June 1992. It rained all week, and we had to paddle up hill.

My Dad in 1996 packing out a moose leg. He was hunting about 30 miles northeast of Ely. He and a buddy had two canoes and it took 19 trips to get across a portage!

My very-first trip in 1986. Me (far right) and the guys with "Root Beer" Dorothy Molter at her home on Isle of Pines. She passed away about five months after this photo.
