With the talk of high water and swamping canoes in current, I was wondering about portage from Splash into Ensign?
Are people able to navigate thru that normally narrow and shallow portage?

I mean how high is the water compared to normal?
3ft? 5ft?

I was thinking about this one last week too. I’ve taken this portage about 20 times before. I have not seen it this year.

On high water years the water is coming out of Ensign at a really good clip. The “S” shaped path you normally have to take from Ensign to Splash is an easy fast run through. Most trips in early June even that portage is wet. Being that the water was over the docks last week at laTourell’s I’d bet that portage is going to be wild. So if the water level is over the docks, that means the water level is at least a foot above where it normally is. Again just an educated guess because I’ve not seen it this year.

I can see maybe running them, but the other way looks tough.
Paddling up stream with the narrow current better stay in step.
You get turned sideways and good name for the lake.

I found this video on YouTube of some paddlers running the Splash rapids. It's whitewater canoeing for sure and doesn't look like much fun if you dump.
