There were about 40 boats in the Race with a combination of solo and tandem paddlers in canoes and kayaks. The water was still very high on the Mississippi and the current was fast. Several paddlers completed the course with average speeds over 7 mph. Fun adventure - long hours of straight through paddling and 4-5 hours of constant drizzle. Several of our BWCA.com paddlers completed the race in less than 24 hours with 16 hours 53 minutes being the fastest time. As part of the support crew, I got to meet paddlers at portages and check points, bring them supplies and encouragement. Most of the hard core paddlers paddled straight through from start to finish.

Next weekend several (10) of our usual MN Border Challengers will be participating in the MR 140, that is the Mississippi River 140 mile Race.
Watch if you have time. They start at Brainerd and travel to Anoka. And yes, the river is very high!!

It turned out to be an excellent event. Good paddling and a good after-event gathering at Coon Rapids Dam.

There's a ton of photos and videos to watch on their facebook site. They are already planning for a 2nd annual event for next June. I'll be back!

I'll be watching. We thought about doing one of the shorter ones, but given the amount of work left to do before we leave on BDub trips, I am glad we didn't. Have fun everyone!

Sorry I won’t be home to track everyone, I love watching from afar. We’ll be in the boundary waters but I’ll certainly check any threads when we return.
