This is really terrible. Gardiner MT is isolated because of Gardiner and Yellowstone River flooding. We go there most summers for a trip of some sort. The tour operators out of Gardiner are going to take a massive hit. Hard to see how that road into Yellowstone will be fixed any time soon. Imagine if the Fernberg closed for the summer.

Yes, and the road closure to Gardiner gets so much use from Tourists from the north coming in.

Just think 2021 - 4,860,537 people visited the park last year. Many people's summer family trip is planned around the Yellowstone visit.

The video of that whole house being pulled off its foundation and floating down the river is just unbelievable. That was right there in Gardiner - I’ve stayed at the hotel next door. Imagine when that house hits the next bridge?
It’s just shocking to see the video of the damage to the road between Mammoth and Gardiner. I can’t imagine what the engineering needs will be to get that road open again any time this year. I wonder if they might not make a temporary one up away from the Gardiner River to facilitate at least essential traffic? The town of Gardiner and Mammoth (the park headquarters) rely on each other in so many ways.
Also, seeing the enormous erosion of the banks means there will be a lot of dirt, sand, and silt covering the gravel beds in the Yellowstone. That could have a big impact on trout reproduction for a long ways downstream and for many years to come.

My co-worker and good friend is the chief Law Enforcement Officer for Grand Teton NP, we are planning on staying with them this Sept for a few days. Her husband texted me yesterday that it is a mess there as well.
It is not just Yellowstone NP and Gardiner, Red Lodge MT got flooded also, including Roscoe MT.

Those pictures are unreal. Thanks for sharing. I have fished many of those rivers and waded across them many years.

I have spent a couple months in the Red Lodge area hiking, fighting fire, and camping.
Rock Creek is what is flooding there, the snow year was way above normal and it is still melting, going to be a tough hall for alot folks involved with this one.
PS, I heard that Livingston had trouble.
We were going to Red Lodge this fall after Grand Teton. Looks like will be changing our plans and heading to the Big Horns instead, The wify is flying out of Billings and I will take our small camper back to Duluth.

I saw some local video that made it look like the NE area between Tower and Cooke City may be at risk. I fished and hiked that area a lot and remember the Lamar River and Soda Butte Creek often ran right up next to the road.

They said tonight on the news Livingston has 7 feet of water at the hospital.
