It doesn't appear on any of my newer Voyageur maps so I would guess it has fallen in a great state of disuse. But I'll be curious if anyone has any recent reports of success.

Curious to know if anyone has actually tried to find (or found) the central portage from Clearwater to Caribou lake? I went exploring around the north end of where the portage should be a few years ago looking for the cabin that was supposedly there at one point. Old USGS maps show where the cabin was supposedly located, but I couldn't find any sign of it.

Also couldn't see that there was any sort of "portage" there. There were hints of a trail going up toward the swamp/pond to the south, but judging by the sign it's used more by bear than people these days. Beautiful spot nestled in huge cedars, but I couldn't find the portage.

Thinking about going back there again this year. I guess I'm looking for some encouragement and someone to say "Yeah it's there, you just didn't look hard enough!". :)

I'm guessing this is different than the portage that's on the north end kind of where Clearwater makes a keyhead shape?
