A good recall with a backup electric collar for insurance is my system. Hands free and my dog loves being off leash and exploring on her own.
Do you think you can portage a canoe with that method?

Yes, I think I will be able to. I just need to get them used to the canoe. They are super tiny dogs. And they don’t pull at all. I could never trust them off leash. I don’t think I would ever trust a hound dog of any kind off leash. Their noses are just too powerful.

Yes. They have choke collars on. This makes them pay attention to where I am and stay close. And, they’re 6 and 10 pounds-full grown. : )
The coupler is on the far end. Both the leash connector and coupler swivel. It’s cute because they go switch positions constantly but the connectors just keep swiveling.
I have these fleece sweaters for them called Wiener Wraps. Ha. Now I just need life jackets. I really hate to spend the money but they’re poor swimmers.

I’ve been working on a system to take my dogs into the wilderness. I have tried a couple of different things. I think I finally have a great set up. I bought an Arcadia Trail hands-free leash. It goes around my waist and has excellent padding. Then I bought a coupler. Everything swivels so they don’t get tangled up very easily. And, when they do, they can usually get themselves out of it. I have no issues putting on a pack with them. I am working with them to not be afraid of the canoe when I flip it over. They are already getting used to it.
This hands-free swivel leash was definitely worth the money. Hikes are much more enjoyable for all of us.

The coupler is on your end of the strap or it's on their end in the pic?
Very cool either way. Might as well get some little pack/harness things so they can carry their own food weight :)

Looks like we’ll trained pups... it’ll work if they won’t run and pull ya over.

Not sure where you live or what kind of conditions you ever have to walk your dogs in, but be very careful with that hip mounted walking system if you ever have to be on iced over sidewalks or roads. Mine was great when our puppies were that small, but now that they’re both 85 to 90 pounds it really is not plausible to use in winter conditions. Then again, not much is.

That's a great idea!

nctry: "Haha... I can’t see to well. Using cheaters for glasses. My glasses got flipped off and through the mower they went. I’ll get a set of cheaters for reading tomorrow when I order new glasses. Not the best thing to happen on a holiday weekend. I won’t tell you what I thought I saw... and it wasn’t a puddy cat! Haha! My son came here with a little fluff ball that size. She thinks she is a Rottweiler... haha!"
Yes, that’s the problem with these little dogs. They will take on anything. Especially Monty. They also are hunters and have crazy noses. So, I am very careful about keeping them safe. I have no doubt Monty would think he could take on a bear.
