I just skimmed through this, so I might have missed some things, but my reaction is this guy should stay home on the couch.

Unas10: "I watched the linked video and read the Facebook post of the Idaho County officials. Somewhere in the middle lies what really happened. The hiker made some questionable decisions. Law enforcement's attitude,IMHO, was highly unprofessional. Grace is a wonderful thing and needs to be extended liberally. Accountability is a wonderful thing and needs to applied equally. "
Law enforcement should never have included his name in their post. I follow a lot of the SAR teams in MN and they never post names unless they have specific permission. I also think seeing the actual text message exchange shows that law enforcement's FB post was a rather biased accounting that underestimated the mental state the solo hiker (you can tell how shaken he still was by the experience in the video) and the physical challenges he had already endured. Just because someone can still walk, doesn't mean they don't need help. I have never seen our local SAR teams disparage someone who called for a rescue, even if the rest of us might pass judgement.

Ditto on Unas 10’s comments… however the skeptic in me wonders how many views/ subscribers he gained on his YouTube channel (or how many he wanted to gain).

Interesting video about a search and rescue story in Idaho. Makes me proud of the professional training our northern MN SAR teams receive. Selway-Bitteroot Mountain rescue call

I questioned his motives about the trip. For a guy who made a trip to MT Everest basecamp and several other demanding trips it seems he should have been able to work his way back to his car. Also, why didn’t he light a fire? He could have thawed enough snow for water. As to the Sheriff Department their post lacked judgement, but they most likely caught on to his motives and daily deal with peoples lack of judgement. But the most important thing they came and got him out of there.

I was going to reply, but Carl's reply made my would be-reply redundant. So, what Carl said times two. I'll only add that you can put dehydrated or freeze-dried food in your mouth and rehydrate it there. It might take a little time, but it's still food.

This guy is a professional youtuber looking for views. Look at the gear list attached to his post. There seems to be two sides to this story as some have noted above. His complaint that they would not dispatch a helicopter is a bit over the top.
