Maiingan: "Stumpy: "Anybody here recall Knife Lake Pete ? It was early 80's Bud Dickson who taught me how to trap in Quetico (Yes Quetico !), was the Prairie Portage Ranger, in 1969. Bud was told to run Pete off his Canadian campsite. As Bud told me.... He pulled up, and Pete offered him the best blueberry pie, that he ever had. Bud said he didn't have the heart to run him out. So there he staid on his Canadian Side of Knife lake. I would like to follow in his footsteps ;) And the Chicago mob story was true, as far as I know. |

I checked out his camp a few years ago to see what it looked like. It was hard to tell that anything was ever there. |

Stumpy: "Anybody here recall Knife Lake Pete ? About what year was that? Was he still using his outboard? Pete was a local legend. Rumor, was he came to Ely to hide from the Chicago mob. Pete was very friendly and welcoming. Maybe the best back woods cook ever. Fish, blueberry pancakes and muffins, breads, etc... Pete was still using outboards after being banned. He also setup "His" camp for the whole summer. |

He eventually moved his camp from the Canadian side to the US side. He used a 2hp Johnson. |
