I really enjoyed this book, Mocha. I found it to be a fascinating biography. I confess I’m new to reading about the history of the area in and around what’s now the bwca, at the least going back as far as the Linklaters, who I’ve now learned had quite an impact on the area (and its people, including Sigurd Olson). I had intended to save it for trip reading this summer but couldn’t put it down.

I added it to the this Book Thread a little while ago. Would be interested to know what others think of the book.

Thanks, I forgot to check the book thread. Glad you enjoyed it. I love reading all this history. It’s stuff we don’t learn in school

Making the Carry by Timothy Cochrane

Anyone read this yet? Saw a short blurb in the current MN conservation Volunteer magazine

Also enjoyed this very much. Painful to read in predictable ways, especially how Tchi-Ki-Wis kept silent in the presence of white people, as was tradition. Very few photos of her and not nearly as much known or remembered about her.
The author will be a featured guest at the annual meeting for WTIP on May 20th.
