First trip. first night first campsite. West end of Knife Lake. Campsite wasn't great. 1.5 stars. Found out the outfitter gave us a rain fly and some poles instead of a second tent. And that's when I knew this was a special place. Because I DIDN'T CARE!

Adding wood to the fire to keep the skeeters at bay while we watch the Northern Lights dance over South Temperance with a pack of wolves howling 200-300 yards behind our campsite. Pure magic.

Marlin at age 79 - Boundary Point, Saganagons. June 2024
Marlin was up early, as usual, fishing from camp before the rest of the group was even awake. I snapped this quick as he climbed up from shore.

This is a personal one. My border collie Luna was 2 and 1/2 when I took her on her first Quetico trip of 10 nights. We practiced for weeks before by paddling the local forest preserves. She passed the test perfectly by remaining calm in the boat.
So fast forward, I had to put her down last September after 13 years and 6 Quetico trips. She set the bar so high as far as tripping companions go, I know I’ll never experience that quality of companionship again. At least not without her grace and gentleness.
Anyway, reading the story in the new Bouundaty Waters Journal about Jack’s Aussie just now brought lots of memories and tears. She was my girl.
