As Nola said, he was truly one of a kind and he will be missed. I never got the opportunity to do a canoe trip with him, but got to know him pretty well at the Rockford wing nites and Kishwaukee Paddlefest. Great guy and a master storyteller. It was an honor to have known him and to be able to call him my friend.

RIP, Bill.

So sad.
I logged into this site because of an unknown group text to my phone.
This was not the reason, but I'm glad I checked in.
RIP Bill.

I met Bill and wife Diana when he was working in Sioux City, Iowa. Had them stay at our house for a night, and we had a blast. Such a gem of a guy!

Condolences to Diana and family. I will miss his insight and humor. God's blessings to his family as they overcome their grief.

So sorry to hear of Bill's passing.

I always enjoyed chatting with Bill when BobBWCA would organize annual gatherings on the Kishwaukee River in Cherry Valley. I always got a laugh out of Bill's humorous Facebook posts too.

Condolences to the family.

Rest in peace Bill.

His daughter informed me this morning that he passed. He had some serious health issues and couldn’t get past them. Many here knew Bill and have canoed with him. He was a friend via the internet for many years and I will miss him. When the memorial details are finalized I will post here. RIP brother

I'm so deeply sorry to hear this. I had the opportunity to paddle with him and Ozark Paddler (who passed a few years back) on the Jack's Fork River in the Missouri Ozarks. A true delight of a human being.

That’s sad. I liked talking to him at Wingnights and he made great food.
He said his screen name stood for Maximum/ Brake/ Horsepower.
He must have like racing.
He was a great guy.

Indeed a great guy. It was always a pleasure to spend time with 'Maxx.' His humorous stories told with that deep southern accent were memorable. This world won't be the same without him. Rest in peace friend.
