curtain falls, very late October 2008, solo trip, i have not seen anybody for several days. it appears that i am the only person up here. the river is very high and the currents on the american side make the portage access very chancy. i choose canada for a portage but none exists, as far as i could tell. however it is a stand of old growth pines that make a fairly easy bush portage.

It is time to start the February 2010 Photo Contest.
A couple quick announcements:
First, we added a new slideshow feature to photo journals. I hope this makes viewing photo journals easier.
Second, keep an eye open for voting on the best photo of 2009. The winner will receive an awesome tarp from Cooke Custom Sewing. The 2009 year end entrants will be made up of the winners in 2009 along with other select quality photos posted during the year.
The theme for this month's contest is "Rivers and Streams"
Monthly Category: Rivers and Streams in Canoe Country
Along with the hat, the winner will also receive awesome bwca leather dice can holder from thanks to member dicecupmaker who does amazing leather work.
Remember 1 entry per person please. This helps us vote accurately.

Here's an old one from my first trip in 1984. It's on the Cross River between Round Lake and the Northwest end of Gunflint where we were parked at the public landing. I doubt many (and I would never do it again) have tried that. I think we walked on those slippery rocks more than paddled! But it WAS pretty scenery, and very pristine. TW

I was surprised when I saw how many pictures I have of rivers and streams! I have pics of: Temperance River, LIS, Kawishiwi River, Basswood River, Stuart River, Moose River, Horse River, Dahlgren River, Kelso River, Cherokee Creek, Ada Creek, Picket Creek, and perhaps more. It was hard to choose one, but here is a picture of a walk through portion of the Horse River somewhere between Horse lake and Basswood Falls.
