Albert,
Fantastic photograph. I especially liked the tonal quality you got in the B&W conversion. Do you mind my asking what technique you used to get those tones? Did you use software like Photoshop (and channel mixing) to get the great contrasts?
Thanks,
Tom

Hey moose plums, was this taken before or after Missy took a BW bath?

That explains why they are so different looking. I thought we took the shot at the same time. I was having lots of battery issues with my old camera that trip. Wow, the same shot 2 days in a row. Must have been some good fishing in that spot. ; )

Gabbro Lake. This is the the Davin's first "big" fish. It great to listen to him 'tell the story' how he caught it. Since he did catch it, five of us ate him for dinner.

In Nebraska the Niobrara is the best known, also try the Dismal river and the Elkhorn. Try the Platte if you don't mind walking.

I always wanted to get this shot - my Duluth Pack on the Frost River. Taken yesterday morning. My last BW trip for a long time (unless I can get out again this weekend) Just finished up 5 years in Duluth as the marketing director for Duluth Pack (graphic designers, paddlers, photographers please apply). Headed south to be with family, my dad is struggling with cancer. Anyone know any good paddling in Neraska???

Navigator,
That is just a wonderful close-up loon photo. I am in the market for a new camera and was wondering if you wouldn't mind sharing what camera that was taken with. Thanks.

The Niabora is good but you have to avoid the traffic in the summer.

I hear canoeing in northern Nebraska is pretty nice--along the Niobrara River near Valentine in the Sand Hills. Best wishes for your dad.

Snakecharmer ~
I used a Sony DSC-H5. It is a 7.2 megapixel digital that I took up this year for the first time. I loved it. This photo was a combination of a good camera and luck it getting close. She had a baby nearby, so she wasn't too quick to get out of our path. Here is a link to a pretty good review on the camera: http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/sony/dsc_h5-review/ - By the way, nice trip report last month!

Barley -
Our pics were taken a day apart. You're right, I also have several shots that closely resemble the one you submitted above. But I checked the dates and they were taken roughly 24 hours apart. Same shot, different day you might say (sorry, I couldn't resist).

If you look at snakecharmer's post in "favorite moments" you'll notice he posted a photo of an Agnes sunset. We took them at exactly the same time. They are very different however. The difference of 2 different cameras. Pretty cool.
