I know its been a while but how has the refinish held up over the past decade? I'm looking to refinish a Wenonah and found your detailed description of the process you employed. My plan is to follow your post as a guide.

The refinish held up great. I did end up doing another refinish last spring due to the repeated use of my canoe in the BW. I should have another 8-years before I have to do it again. Good luck!

The Escape has skid plates that are molded into the hull when the canoe is built (1/4 or more straight fiberglass resin) so replaceing them is impossible from what I could see. Adding the ones Wenonah sells... possible. I will do it next season if I do. I want to see how it holds up this year first.

I was really shocked at how easy it was. For me it sounded daunting but after just sucking it up and doing it I was supprised at how easy it really was.

Great refurbish, I do something similar on my gel coated canoe. I just refinish from the waterline across the bottom, and apply with a roller. The bumpier finish left does not affect performance or handling for the paddling I do.

This past weekend I refinished my Kevlar canoe. I posted a complete breakdown in the Canoe Forum. Pictures, steps, and basicly everything I did. This was my first time doing this and I had to do it all from written word descriptions so, if I messed up a step, please be gentle in calling me a moron. ^_^

Very nice.
I've had my Bell Seliga Tripper for several years now. No major flaws, but needless to say there are plenty of scratches etc. from years of use. I have begun to look into "reconditioning" it sometime in the coming years before it does reach critical mass. Good to hear a story like yours. Makes the decision easier.
