Just got back from 5 days on Ensign. Double portaging brings all the comforts for 5 great days of fishing and enjoying BWCA (lite as some would say). Very comfortable camp after a day of great fishing!

there was not much room on this island site in Quetico but i found enough space for my Tent and Baker shelter.

good thing too because no sooner had i set up than a steady rain came on that lasted until the next evening.i was able to cook in the shelter and make that home for a day.the trees and brush were great wind breaks.

Yeah, yeah I know....it's not the BWCA. But it's my little slice of heaven for 10-days out of the year; my elk camp out in a widerness area of Northwestern Colorado every year. This will be my first year not in elk camp because I've diverted my resources and time off from work to taking my 1st ever trip into the BWCA. The differences in the accomodations will be startling but I'm very much looking forward to it all.

Taken on Jordan Lake in the fall of 2007 during severe drought and a fire ban. Normally you wouldn't see my tarp over the fire pit quite like this.

I used this photo to try and comfort a friend who was suffering the final stages of a battle with cancer. He was at least a 30-40 year tripper and had story after story to tell me about the BW. I enlarged the photo and added the quote from 2 Corinthians 5:4-14 (about when we pack up our earthly tent).

Hard to do this with one photo but here is a 2008 Quetico Kashahpiwi site on a small island in the north end. Absolutely stunning location overlooking the lake. Too bad my tent was so ugly.

Nojobro...those two little green topped things are the shower tent, complete with a propane fired shower and an outhouse tent, complete with full sized head/toilet seat that I position over a 6-foot hole I have to dig every year. Takes me about 2 days just to set elk camp up. One of the big tents I use exclusively for a mess hall complete with two big stoves, burners, 7 coolers full of grub, etc. Game wardens and biologists seem to find their way into camp in the evenings just in time for porterhouse steaks grilled over cedar coals, Texas Chili, elk stew or any other number of goodies, salads, sides and cobblers done up in Dutch ovens. Fun times out there.

Wow, elaborate! Do you have to haul in water, too, or is it near a source?

I'm sure it's fun....but do let us know what you think of the BW after you go. ;-)

Boarstalker
05/16/2011 08:02PM

Yes...I have to haul in water. I use 7-gallon containers and usually haul in 8 of those. Every couple days I'll have to round up whoever's in camp to hike down to Beaver Creek and fill up the containers again.
