Ok, all this heath talk has got me wanting to buy a juicer. I have been reading the topics that have been talking about the juice fasting diet. Well since then I have been replacing one of my meals with the juice profuct from the grocery store, Naked brand and another juice brand. Since then I have felt much better, more than likely because I don't get enough vegetables in my diet. I have started reading about different juicera and have been looking at the masticating juicers, particularlly the omega brand one. Has anyone got this juicer? Or what are some better options if any, I will be juicing both fruit and vegetables. Also I will be looking for some good recipes for juicing if anyone has a good website they have found for that. Thanks :)

Can't give any advice on juicers but I encourage you to do whatever works for you. Congratulations and good luck!

JoeWilderness: "Vitamix works for me. It is expensive;yet, made in the USA and I don't think I will ever wear it out. You can even make soup with it. My son is in the food industry and he just calls it a bar mixer. They use it to crush ice. Oh, I got mine in the color red, of course."

Vitamix for the win. If you're drinking juice you're going to love smoothies and there's no better tool available.

Thanks, mooseplums. It sounds like a winner. I have a smoothie most days and I'm wearing out our old Hamilton Beach blender.

I'll have to find a bunch of new recipes to try if I get one.

I have a blender that makes smoothies well enough. Again, I encourage you to research the Vitamix. It can make fresh soup in 5 minutes! Incredible!

Good call on getting a juicer. From what Ice read the masticating juicers take quite a while and can't handle a lot of the harder vegetables. My housemate has one that i have been using for 6 months now. I am not at home to check the brand name right now but it is decent. When I buy my own however, I will be getting the Breville 700 or 850 watt.

So far my favorite juice combo is apple, kale, ginger, and sometimes a hot pepper. Let me know how it goes!

She used it a lot during the first year but rarely in the second year.

So, just a moment ago, I asked her: "How come you don't use your juicer anymore?"

Paraphrased, this is what she told me: It's too much work. After you do the juicing you have to clean the machine which isn't easy. Then, if you didn't want to waste the pulp, you'd have to put it in the blender with the juice. Afterwards, you'd have to clean the blender too....both machines, plus the counter, for one glass of juice.

I leave that information for you because it may influence your choice of brand or whether you even want to go ahead with the purchase.

Oh, the juice was invariably good. The wife was enthused enough, in the early days, to make a little extra for me.

"

It is a lot easier to just grab a banana, and peel and eat!!"

Following this logic, it would also be easiest on a canoe trip to base camp at the 1st site you encounter. Not too product tho. Bananas, while healthy and far better than bacon, eggs and hash browns, they're rather low on the nutrient density scale.

For the op, it's usually best to start with a couple cucumbers because of their high water content. Take a look at this nutrient density guide and alternate from week to week. Try to mix and match different colors. Check out the Joe Cross website (the guy who made the "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead" juicing movie available free on Hulu. This site has lot's of helpful hints and programs to guide you through either meal replacement or juice feasts. There's also a nutritionist who'll personally answer questions on the forum. It's all free.

With some of the TV promotions for the Nutra Bullet, they throw in a recipe book...the basic unit also comes with several recipes

Oh the perceived easy way. I masticate fruits and veggies the old fashion way…with my teeth. Breakfast today was one small cooked red potato cubed, a half cooked sweet potato cubed, and a half cup of broccoli flowerets with 3 large egg whites poured over them, then microwaved for 5 minutes and finished with cinnamon and nutmeg. The broccoli flowerets were prewashed and I precooked the potatoes. The potato skinning, cubing, tossing, and separating eggs took an additional 5 minutes. I prepared a healthy breakfast in 10 minutes total, and only have one dish, a knife, and two forks to wash.

One of the good things about the Vitamix is that when I make a smoothie for the kids, I can throw in stuff like spinach, kale or other healthy stuff in with the good tasting fruits and berries. Kids have no clue they are eating healthy.

Someone once told me to add Flax to a smoothie without a warning. Seriously watch out when using this.

We recently bought "THE NINJA!".
Louder than heck, but we really like it.

I bought the Omega. The attractive part for me was that you could do enough for a few days because it did not heat the juice in the process. That allows refrigerated storage, so you aren't doing all of the cleaning for one glass of juice.

We had the magic bullet (a gift) and it wasn't for me.

+1 vitamix. Purchased it 2006. Never a single issue. The blades are not sharp btw. The machine works by speed not sharpness. I use it everyday. Smoothies, nut milk, nut sauces, soups are the most common uses. I switched to a wfpb diet in fall 2017 due to some immune-mediated health issues. The vitamix has been a big part of my current diet. Lost 37 pounds by not eating the foods I used to eat, and consider myself at an ideal weight that requires zero thought to maintain. Would have a different time managing the diet I eat without a vitamix.

Masticating juicer extracts more juice, slower, harder to clean and more expensive. Juicing experts say in the long run the extra juice you extract pays for the difference.
Centrifugal juicers are much cheaper and easier to clean.

A juice fast, really a juice feast because you drink as much as you want, is whole another level from replacing a meal. Both are great however. The feast is really a journey for the mind and body. It forces the body to cleanse out dead cells, chemicals and of course cellulite which have accumulated over the decades of life. It clarifies the difference between true hunger and cravings (huge benefit). It also reprograms our mind to crave health/unprocessed foods. The goal is to start a new and permanent way of eating. If you go back to eating poorly, everyday, you just tried a diet that didn't work long ter.

I have a $49 GE centrifugal juicer from Walmart. Put a produce bag in the waste container and it cleans up in 5 minutes.

I am by no means a health food expert, but I did a lot of research before buying a juicer. What I read is that a juicer takes the juice out of the fruit/veggies, and leaves all of the pulp and other parts behind to throw out.

The Vitamix blender on the other hand takes everything you put in there and liquefies it. You then get the added health benefit of the whole piece of fruit or veggie you put in it.

I put in the whole strawberry, greens and all. It liquefies it within seconds. The thing is awesome. I have had it for about 10 months. I am a smoothie expert now.

My favorite smoothie for breakfast has some oatmeal in it. It is a great start to the day and gives me alot of energy for my morning work out.

If you want to try my morning smootie:
Two heaping tables spoons of Steel Cut oats. Powderize in Vitamix.
Add a half cup of hot water.

I then add Strawberries and half a banana and ice. The oats thicken it and I feel it fills me up better.

The Vitamix is awesome.

I've been looking at that and wondering if it was any good and worth it. How long have you had yours? I looks like it would be pretty simple and easy to use? Can you take it on trips (Not BW :)) with you?

We have had our Nutra Bullet since just before Christmas. It's very simple to use, cleans up super quickly. It IS small enough that it can be packed and taken with you on trips (not to the BW)
We really like ours. It is so powerful that it makes almonds, and even flax seed disappear. I throw in halved lemons and whole kiwi's unpeeled.I also add a protein shake mix to my smoothies.

If you get the juicer, make sure you include the fiber/pulp from the fruit and vegetables in whatever you'll be drinking. Otherwise, you're getting all the calories from the sugar and not the beneficial fiber.
