We were camped on Pocket Lake in May 2008. Two of us are photographers. We decided to get up before sunrise to photograph it. I took this photo of my friend as were positioning ourselves to capture the sunrise.

This loon was very entertaining but sadly it was injured. It spent all day and night swimming around us. He kept making this loud flapping motion that looked like he was wrestling with a big fish. After a photographed him a few times I realized his left foot was broken or hurt. It stuck upwards and you could visibly see it above his back. He swam fine and a person would never be able to tell if he didn't have those flap attacks. The poor thing slept in the bay right by our campsite all night. When we woke up he was still there floating. I still wonder what happened to him that day and if he's alright today.
