jdevries,
At least you didn't bring Eoyore. He would have complained the entire trip. LOL!
Here's my entry:
the tranquil, slow moving Nina Moose River on a warm October day.
(snakecharmer's shire is beautiful!)

This is my first time looking at the pictures for the photo contest, and I am amazed at a lot of these pictures. Most of these pictures should be hanging on my wall. Great job everyone, and keep up the good work.

It's Winnie The Pooh. He was my partner on that trip as well as many others. Not much of a trip partner, he refuses to carry anything on the portages and can't paddle worth a darn.
Here he is enjoying his morning coffee.

Here's a photo of moving water during the fires of '06. Kinda of scary when you paddle up to a closed portage, with the smell of smoke in the air....

I like the sticky topics. Here's another suggestion - when you announce the winner of the month's photo contest, why not include the winning photo in your post? When there are this many (great) entries, it can be hard to find the winner by scrolling and looking for the winner's name. Just a thought . . .

Thank you wildernesswebb, I'm glad you like it. That was one of those perfect September days; blue sky, very light breeze, and paddling in the BWCA.
Last September the Moose River was higher than we've ever seen it. Places where we could walk across it in years past were ragging like it was in that shot. Made the trip out, back up the river, a little tough in spots.

Some very nice photos here.
I took this one just outside of the BWCA so it doesn't count in the contest, but it's a good photo of Devil's Kettle Falls on the Brule River in Superior National Forest.

in 2006 the rapids at Chatterton Falls--in the Q--were running
very low.what had been a bank to bank run of big water on our
last trip was now several channels of very fast water and wide
open areas of dry river bed.we were able to walk around and get
some great shots of bore holes in the bedrock and several small
waterfalls.some of the small ones were knee high and others
a film of water running over a smooth rock face..there was still
alot of water running down river making standing waves and
flumes like this one--

Is that the south end of Magnetic, coming directly out of Gunflint? Never seen the water so low; normally those rocks are well below the waterline.
Or is that the little riffle just above Little Rock Falls?

Beemer, that shot of the canoe stuck in the rapids reminds me of the famous "Mike from Chicago" who ran one of our Kevlar solo canoes (Prism) down 4 waterfalls & then got caught in the 5th one.
Part of his story was included in a story in the BWJ a few years ago.

Regarding horses. Sig Olson called the mist that rises and clings to the lakes on calm mornings White Horses. With an ever so slight breeze the mist rolls slowly just above the water and kind of rolls gently. Some of my favorite BW memories are of sipping coffee on a clear morning and watching the White Horses roll by.
